2016 Teacher of the Year Fact Sheet The Texas State Teacher of the Year (TOY) Program, sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), honors excellence in classroom education and provides a forum to showcase many outstanding educators whose efforts and example inspire their students, their colleagues and the communities they serve. Districts and open-enrollment charter schools may establish their own selection process in choosing their Teacher of the Year nominees. Districts/charters may use their own applications or submitted materials in making their own selections but must use the state application to recommend applicants to the ESC-20 Teacher of the Year program. To be considered for regional and state recognition, candidates must: • Be nominated by the Superintendent of their district or the district in which they were employed full-time during the 2014-15 school year • Completely answer the state application form • Meet all deadlines and fulfill all requirements While the program traditionally recognizes classroom teachers, school librarians and counselors who teach at least four hours per day may be nominated for regional, state and national honors. Administrators are not eligible. A candidate who accepts a position outside of the classroom or school district or in school administration prior to the selection of the state finalist is not eligible to advance in the state competition.
