AVON RECYCLING PROGRAM Recycling Collection 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. Recyclables must be put out to the edge of the lane, or at the curb if you do not have access to a lane. All containers must be marked as “recycling.” Lids are to be removed on collection day. Do not put recycling in bags. The Borough DPW will collect: Newspapers Should to be tied in bundles or in bins, not to exceed 12 inches. Newspaper pick up does not include junk mail. Tin cans, aluminum cans, glass bottles and plastic household containers These items should be comingled or placed together in containers.. Cardboard is NOT collected from residents but can be brought to the recycling center. (Cardboard is collected from businesses only). Household recycling pick up is every other week. Recycling Center Avon Residents Only Located at Jefferson Ave and South Station Ave. Mid June through Mid September: Hours – Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm Sundays and Holidays Closed Mid September through Mid June: Hours – Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm Saturday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm Sundays and Holidays Closed Empty all recyclables into appropriate dumpsters. A dumpster is provided for empty bags. Do not leave items outside the gates when closed. . What Do I Do With? …… Appliances – Household appliances Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and any other products that contain freon have a charge of $25 per unit. The fee is payable to the Borough of Avon. Please include the address and telephone number. Once payment is received, we will collect the unit/s. (Always remember to remove the doors from refrigerators and freezers). Batteries – -Household batteries Alkaline batteries, (dry cell) AAA, AA, C, D, 9v, can be thrown out with your regular household trash. -Silver “button batteries” should be returned to retail stores or to county sponsored drops GO TO Mon Cty Drop Off Sites, or can be brought to the borough office. -Old car and boat batteries can be dropped off at the Public Works yard during regular business hours. However, you should check with local repair facilities to see if they accept or turn it in when you get a new battery. -Rechargeable batteries should be brought to retail store drop offs. Check www.call2recycle.org for drop off locations. Bubble Wrap – Dispose with your regular household refuse or call a local shipping outlet to see if they will accept. DO NOT RECYCLE. Electronics The list of electronics below have to be recycled as per “ The Electronic Waste Management Act “ of New Jersey. Law prohibits computers and TV’s and certain other electronics from being disposed of in the trash. They must be recycled. Items to recycle: TV’s (without wood cabinets), computers, computer monitors, laptops, hard drives, printers, fax machines, scanners, keyboards, mice, cables, radios, phones, cameras, VCR’s, DVD players, stereo components. You are responsible for removing data from hard drives. There is an “Avon Residents Only” drop off area at the Public Works recycling center. Please leave in the designated area. Most all electronic retailers are required take your old TV or computer when purchasing a new one. LINK TO Monmouh County recycling sites These products contain a small amount of mercury. They can not be brought to the borough recycling facility. If you would like to dispose of these materials, you may bring them unbroken to some home centers ie Home Depot. Call ahead to make sure they are accepted. Large quantity used fluorescent bulb generators ( offices, stores, etc. ) can order the appropriate boxes from the internet to have the used bulbs shipped out and recycled. Fluorescent Bulbs/Thermometers Household Hazardous Waste All hazardous waste must be taken to the Monmouth County Reclamation Center in Tinton Falls. Please call ahead for an appointment and directions at 732-922-2234. Examples of household hazardous waste: paint thinner, roofing tar, mercury thermometers, household cleaning products, pesticides, gasoline, etc. A copy of the Monmouth County Recycling Directory is available outside the gate of the Avon recycling area Junk Mail Junk mail can be brought to the Recycling Center. Examples of junk mail are :office paper, envelopes, computer paper. This Category of recyclables includes CEREAL TYPE BOXES. Please use the appropriate container at the Recycling Center. JUNK MAIL SHOULD NOT BE PUT OUT WITH NEWSPAPERS OR PLACED IN THE NEWSPAPER CONTAINER AT THE RECYCLING CENTER Paint --Latex Paint – Latex paint is to be placed in the garbage with your regular household refuse. Remove lids and air dry the residual paint. Note: mixing kitty litter with the paint will speed up the drying process. DO NOT RECYCLE and do not bring paint containers to the Recycling Center. Other paints- Enamel or oil based paint, paint thinners and turpentine should be handled as household hazardous waste. Packing Paper, Packing Peanuts, Styrofoam – Place in the garbage with your regular household refuse. DO NOT RECYCLE. Please remove from boxes before recycling. It may be possible to take packing peanuts to a local shipping store. They also make a great drainage aid for your container plants. Pizza Boxes – Dispose with your regular household refuse. DO NOT RECYCLE. Plastic Flower Pots and Flower Flats – Return to the place of purchase or place with your regular household refuse. DO NOT RECYCLE. Scrap Metal – The Borough DPW will collect metal on average every tow to three weeks. Please call before putting putting out for collection. Syringes – Break needles and place in a hard plastic bottle with a secure top. Dispose with your regular household refuse. You can also join a syringe return program. DO NOT RECYCLE. Take Out Containers – Plastic, Styrofoam, cardboard (pizza boxes included) are to be disposed thru your regular household refuse. DO NOT RECYCLE. Tires – There is a fee of $3 per tire for automobiles and small pickups. $5 per tire for large trucks. Tires must not have rims. The fee is payable to the Borough of Avon. Once payment is received, we will collect the tire/s. Please include the address and telephone number. Used Motor Oil –. Used motor oil and antifreeze in disposable containers may be brought to the Recycling Center.
