Inspector’s comment

Welcome to the Oldham Borough Neighbourhood, during the last quarter we have seen a general decrease in crimes when compared to last year although Burglary, vehicle crime and ASB remain priorities.

Operation Durable tackling Serious Acquisitive Crime and Operation

Tuscan focusing on ASB continue to get good reults in the drive to reduce crime.

We are using new dispersal powers to remove youths from an area when they are seen causing ASB, this has been particularly successful in the Failsworth area.

As it ’s British summer time check out our tips below for a safe holiday period. Items from the garden are being used to aid the offenders, so far we have - Wheelie bin and garden chairs that have been used to gain access to windows

If you have any concerns about your community please do not hesitate to contact your local neighbourhood policing team.

Crime prevention advice

Prepare for summer;

Remember to adjust any light timers you may have for British Summer

Time.

Put all bikes away in your garage or shed at the end of the day, and remember to lock the garage/shed afterwards.

If possible chain several large items together in the shed to make them more difficult to steal.

Don’t leave garden tools and power tools out or unattended that may be easy to steal or of use to force windows or doors.

As the evenings get lighter and (hopefully) warmer, if you are in the back garden remember to lock your front door to prevent sneak in thefts, and of course vice versa.

Keep hedges and bushes trimmed to a reasonable height so they don’t provide cover for would be thieves particularly near to windows and doors, and especially those with large leaves and plenty of foliage.

If you have ladders and can’t store them inside a garage or shed, chain them to something substantial such as a fencepost to prevent them being used to access upstairs windows.

Have a clearout of your shed or garage so that you can get your car or bikes in there and out of harms’ way.

Beware of callers at the door offering to do garden works, driveways or other jobs around the house. Wherever possible, get a couple of quotes for any work that may need doing, and better still get a tradesmean who’s done some work for a friend or neighbour so you know how good they are.
