Mental Health and Young people Train the trainer course for professionals working with young people. Wednesday 18th November AND Wednesday 25th November. (Both days are compulsory) 9.30am – 4.30pm Venue: Youth Council Offices, Room 222, Level 2, Oldham Civic Centre, West Street This is a 2 day course that will equip professionals with the skills and knowledge to be able to deliver training to others. The course will enable participants to deliver the following courses to others in Oldham. Introduction to Child and Adolescent Mental Health This multi-disciplinary course will enable participants from a wide range of backgrounds to consider how, through their role; they can promote the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people identify early mental health problems and work together with others to improve access to services and support. At the end of this course participants will be able to: Apply current conceptual models for thinking about mental health, mental health problems and disorders in Teenagers Briefly apply and describe current theories and research relating to; attachment, brain development, risk and resilience in order to deepen your understanding and develop your practice Explore your own perspective on children and young people’s mental health, alongside the perspectives of others including the voices of young people, in order to establish a foundation for further learning. Teens, Turmoil and Transition: Mental Health in Adolescence This course aims to provide those interacting with, working with, or supporting young people with a solid understanding of mental health and wellbeing during the teenage years, alongside tools for supporting teenagers and young people during this transitional and often difficult, turbulent time. By the end of the course participants will be able to: Understand theories regarding cognitive, emotional and social development of teenagers, as well as current theories within the field of neuroscience and brain development Understand risk taking behaviour Understand emotional problems in adolescence Apply positive coping strategies Provide emotional containment for young people Signpost to more specialist support We are asking for applications to participate in the course. This will form part of the selection process. Criteria will be: Must be working with children and young people within the Oldham Borough Must have authorisation from line manager to commit to rolling out training within 12 months of completing the course Must be able to commit to delivering at LEAST one ‘Introduction to Mental Health’ course and at least one ‘Teens, Transitions and Turmoil’ course to other professionals in Oldham within 12 months of completing the train the trainer course. The voluntary sector Children’s Hub has a database of member organisations which we will engage with to deliver the training sessions required for the agreement but feel the demand may require additional training to be carried out. If successful, the training will be added to our current training programme and rolled out to the voluntary sector during 2016.
