Every year in France, there is a very famous cycling race called ‘Le
Tour de France’.
In this session you are going to use the internet to research the race
in order to answer the following questions.
Make your answers into a poster or presentation about the race.
Use the following websites;

The first website is the official race website and most information can
be found there: to select the English version, click on the British flag.
Task 1: Answer the questions
1. When did the tour start this year?
2. When will the tour end this year?
3. What is particularly special about this year’s race?
4. Who can take part in the “Randonnée du Tour” on 21st July?
5. What colour should you wear if you take part in the “Randonnée du Tour”?
5. In what year was the very first race?
6. What is the total distance covered by this year’s race?
7. How many stages will it consist of this year?
8. Complete the following information about the stages (the first one has been done for you).

There are different awards that can be won and each is given a
different coloured jersey (maillot). What colour are the following
jerseys, and to whom are they given?

15. To whom is the ‘maillot vert’ awarded?
16. To whom is the ‘maillot blanc’ awarded?
17. To whom is the white with red polka dots jersey awarded?

20. What nationality is he?
Now complete either task 2 or task 3.
Task 2:
Search online for a famous Tour de France cyclist, and make a mini profile (you will find the 2nd and 3rd
websites very useful to do this).
You need to include a picture, age, date of birth, nationality, if and when they won the race, hobbies, and
any other interesting information about them.
Task 3:
Look at the map of the race; choose one of the
French towns it passes through.
Research that town online and include information
on your poster. You could include the following:
 Pictures
 Where is it? (by the sea / in the mountains /
near borders with other countries etc.)
 What can you do there?
 Is it famous for anything?
