1-Gift Shop Assistant/Interpreter(anticipated position):

Watson’s Mill Manotick Inc. (WMMI) is looking to hire a new team member: a Gift Shop

Assistant/Interpreter for the 2012 summer season. Located at the heart of Manotick, on the shores of the Rideau River (a World Heritage Site), Watson’s Mill is a unique 19 th

century operating grist mill, and the only one of its kind in the area.

Duties include: Greeting guests & taking ownership of visitor experience; leading group tours to public of all ages & cultural backgrounds; coordinating inventory and record-keeping; making cash sales and processing credit cards; coordinating outreach program and attending farmers’ market; assisting colleagues with implementation of full calendar of events; basic housekeeping.

Reporting to the Education and Programming Officer, this part-time position pays $10.50 per hour, for 23 weeks. Involves weekend & occasional evening work. Will be asked to wear a period costume.

Potential candidates will have excellent communications skills; excellent interpersonal skills; will be enthusiastic and creative, have experience working with the general public, be capable of working in a team environment and with minimal supervision; the ability to work with peers, including co-workers & volunteers; strong organizational skills; and most importantly, have a great sense of humour!

Other requirements include an interest in retail, museums, regional history, historic buildings, and/or community development. French speaking skills are an asset. Police record check is required. First Aid certification and/or a valid Ontario Drivers License are additional assets.

Potential candidates will have excellent communication, leadership & organizational skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, be comfortable working with and/or learning about web technologies, be creative, motivated, a self-starter, and flexible, be capable of working in a team environment and with minimal supervision; and most importantly, have a great sense of humour!

8-Heritage Actors/Interpreters:

Watson’s Mill Manotick Inc. (WMMI) is proud to continue its period dress animation program this season. A new team of Heritage Actors/Interpreters are therefore required for the 2012 summer season. Located at the heart of Manotick, on the shores of the Rideau River (a World

Heritage Site), Watson’s Mill is a unique 19 th

century operating grist mill, and the only one of its kind in the area.

Duties include: Interpreting various aspects of 19 th

century Manotick & rural Eastern Ontario history through performing and explaining period related activities at Watson’s Mill and the surrounding grounds; Performing in historical dramatizations (scripted and improvisational);

Dressing and acting in character while maintaining a visible & approachable presence for visitors; Providing visitors with guided tours; Interacting extensively with the visiting public;

Responding to questions, engaging in dialogues and directing tourists in a historically appropriate manner; Providing excellent customer service; periodically assisting with visitor reception & basic housekeeping.

Reporting to the Education & Programming Officer, these full-time positions pay $10.25 per hour, for 10 to 18 weeks.(# of positions based on funding program results.) Involves weekend & occasional evening work.

Potential candidates will have excellent presentation, communication & interpersonal skills; will be motivated, enthusiastic & creative; will be flexible; will be capable of working in a team

environment with minimal supervision, the ability to work with peers, including co-workers & volunteers; and most importantly, have a great sense of humour! Previous working experience in a performing arts setting is preferred.
