CMT March 2015 Chair’s Action CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS Planning approval is sought for the following proposals: FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE REF FMS 14/17 START & INTAKE September 2015 AWARD TITLE MODE-LOCATIONCREDITS MSc Physician Associate Full time NATURE OF PROPOSAL Blended Learning P.1 Trimesters 1 & 2 intakes per year Chelmsford 180 credits @ L7 DECISION Proposal for a new postgraduate course Proposed tuition fee Home/EU £9,000 (FC00/Prof course), international fee £12,900 Anticipated annual recruitment of 20 fte, increasing to 60 The introduction of the Physician Associate role is designed to facilitate and re-profile the NHS workforce in light of the reduction in NHS training numbers in acute and general practice; local and NHS provider organisations are supportive of a local initiative to develop this role The proposed course is designed to prepare graduates from life or health science related subjects for work in this role The emerging profession is currently not regulated but is recognised by the Royal College of Physicians and all practicing Physician Associates will be encouraged to register on the Physician Associate (Assistant) Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR) The course would offer two intake points to attract international students; there is an increasing demand for Physician Associates in the USA and India 67% of new modules of 4 new 30 credit modules No significant capital spend Standard trimester delivery APPROVED CMT Chair’s Action taken by Prof Michael Thorne, Vice-Chancellor CMT Proposals March 2015 Chair’s Action by e-mail Date Page 1 of 1 ___18 March 2015___________ Academic Office
