Quintiles Assay Development Laboratory in Edinburgh is seeking an experienced Flow Cytometrist to support our continued growth in this area. This role will require the design and development of custom flow cytometry assays and validation of these assays to meet stringent clinical laboratory acceptance criteria. Once developed and validated the assays will be technology transferred to Quintiles Clinical Laboratories globally. The role will also include interacting with customers during assay development, writing scientific reports and standard operation procedure documentation. The successful candidate will become a key member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the development of new assays. Flow Cytometry will comprise a significant part of this role, however the successful candidate will be expected to participate in other areas within the Assay Development Laboratory and therefore practical experience of other laboratory techniques such as other types of cell based immunoassay and ELISA technologies will be advantageous. Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise and support the development of new flow cytometry and cell based assays and for the optimization of existing instrumentation and methodologies. Undertake validation testing of new assays, methodologies and instrumentation to meet project specific timelines. Provide training for laboratory scientists and medical technologists on new assays, methodologies and instrumentation and support assay transfer to clinical production laboratories worldwide. Assist the ADL Director with the generation of Validation and Technology Transfer Reports as well as SOP documentation. Work with the ADL director to identify the most appropriate protocol for each assay being developed. This will be based upon client requests and the most up-to-date scientific literature and technologies in the context of the CRO environment. Work with the ADL Director, Laboratory Managers and Laboratory Scientists to identify the processes in the laboratory that can be better optimized to make the laboratory more efficient. Minimum Required Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree or educational equivalent in Medical/Histo technology and relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience The candidate must have extensive practical experience of Flow Cytometry, with knowledge of BD Biosciences and Beckman Coulter instrumentation preferred The candidate will have excellent problem solving capabilities, oral and written communication skills. Enthusiasm and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are crucial for this post.
