Research Skills
Research Experience:




I worked as a Senior Engineering Research Fellow in the Department of Nanotechnology,
Biotechnology centre, Anna University, Regional Centre – Coimbatore. (June 2009 –
September 2012).
Synthesis, Characterization and application of Carbon Nanotubes:
I have synthesized the carbon nanotubes by chemical vapor deposition
technique. Firstly, I have synthesized metal (Fe, Co, Cu, Ni, Zn and Mn) doped
mesoporous silica (MCM-41 and SBA-15) by modified hydrothermal method. In
my work, I have used many carbon sources for the production of carbon
nanotubes, such as iso butane, methane and camphor. As synthesized metal
doped mesoporous silica and carbon nanotubes were characterized by various
physico chemical techniques. The tubular structure and graphitic nature of the
synthesized CNT’s were confirmed by HRTEM and laser Raman spectroscopy
analysis.
Synthesized carbon nanotubes were functionalized by reflux
condensation process and it was decorated with nickel nanoparticles. I have
studied the absorption of Cd ions from water by using nickel decorated magnetic
carbon nanotubes.
I have studied the electrochemical properties of the synthesized carbon
nanotubes and calculated its specific capacitance value. My material exhibits
high capacitance (~250 F/g) value, without any doping and binding material.
Synthesis, Characterization and application of Graphene material:
I have synthesized the graphene material by modified Hummer’s
method. As synthesized material was characterized by various physico chemical
methods. I studied the electrochemical capacitance properties of graphene
material, without any binding material. I have also calculated the specific
capacitance value of the graphene/CNT composite material, which exhibits very
high capacitance value (420 F/g).
Currently, I am synthesizing graphene material by chemical vapor deposition techniques
by using methane.
