This is a superb opportunity to manage a pathology program in collaboration with a large, multidisciplinary global R&D teams to develop successful new vegetable hybrids. The preferred candidate should be conversant with basic field pathology, epidemiology, molecular and conventional diagnostics, breeding for pathogen/pest resistance, bio-assay development and improvement, data analysis, and prioritization. As a pathologist you will have primary responsibilities in screening for disease resistance of the breeding materials and germplasm in China vegetable breeding programs, executing crop inspection of vegetable production plots, resource allocation, documentation and implementation of QMS tools including field and seed sanitation, supporting pest risk assessment, participating and imparting training and awareness programs related to vegetable pathology. A significant amount of interaction and collaboration is expected with other vegetable pathologists and R&D team members. There will be direct interaction with breeding, foundation seed, and the technology development programs. The successful candidate will also manage, design, develop, and implement the pathology research projects in collaboration with vegetable breeders. You will have direct management responsibility of the pathology staff and budget. The vegetable pathologist will directly interact with the vegetable breeding community and serve as a key member of China vegetable R&D team. The pathologist will also have interaction with other pathology programs in Shandong center of China vegetable R&D. This role offers the prospect to work with the world’s the largest developer, grower and marketer of fruit and vegetable seeds in the world. We lead the development of hybrids with effective disease resistances that boost crop yields, limit spoilage and reduce the need of chemicals. This role provides opportunities for the development of novel approaches/methodologies and creative application of existing methods for the enhancement of pathogen characterization and disease resistance screening. Key responsibilities include: Lead field pathology activities in the R&D organization in South China. Provide the vegetable breeding groups with sufficient service of screening for resistance to disease. Direct and manage all components of a successful vegetable pathology program in South China. Provide scientific expertise to our pathology activities in China. Provide technical expertise to our pathology laboratory activities and field trialing activities across South China. Coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to breeders, scientist and commercial staff. Development of innovative tools to further optimize the efficacy and efficiency of disease resistance assays. Graduate education or working experience overseas No.2 Pathologist Research Associate MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB: Location: Shandong, Yunnan The major responsibilities are for conducting pathology research projects independently, supporting pathology programs of screening/developing disease resistant materials and hybrid to ensure successful seed business of the company, coordinating collection of evaluation data for disease challenge tests and ensuring right data input to the specific programs and forms, and supporting the supervising pathologist for proper and punctual implementation of internal and external pathology activities. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Ensure that the disease screening data is correctly collected and input to the required forms. Ensure that pathology tests are well organized in accordance with pathologist demand: (1) high-quality and consistent results for breeding, FS (DCV inbred or OP), sales (DCV hybrid), TD, NTD and discovery pathology; (2) comparison tests for result consistency among locations; (3) excellent skills for result delivery, networking, data and document organization, multitasking and communications; (4) regularly updated protocols; and (5) properly handling pathogens, seeds and chemicals.
