Job Description: The Graduate Assistant for Greek Collaborative Learning &
Organization Support at Louisiana State University supports Greek students through coordinating efforts, resources and mentors to help Greek students improve their academic behaviors and academic performance; supports the collaborative space by maintaining a studious environment; assists with the advising of the Greek Ambassadors, development and execution of the Greek Enhancement Program, assists with Title IX training for chapters, works with a committee on the Greek Board of Directors; advances the goals of the Office of the Dean of Students, Student Life and Enrollment, assists with administrative support of Greek Life; advances the goals of Greek Life, Office of the
Dean of Students, Student Life and Enrollment, and the University; other responsibilities may be assigned based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
Department/Office Support – 15%
Assists with planning, on-site support and evaluation of Presidents’ Cabinet and/or Advisors meetings.
Assists in the development and execution of the Strategic Plan.
Assists with the collection and administration of the Greek Assessment process for chapters.
Assists with the development and execution of the Greek Life Office Assessment.
Co-advise a Greek Board of Director’s Committee.
Collaborative Learning Support- 35%
Design, develop, create and execute programs to support students o Gauge appropriate academic resources based on needs during the semester and program accordingly. o Deliver a high quality program. o Evaluate and assess resources offered to ensure effectiveness.
Act as a peer mentor o Informally assess the needs of students. o Suggest study techniques and resources. o Provide encouragement to students who have difficult time in courses.
Learn Study Techniques and Coaching Techniques o Meet with the Center for Academic Success (CAS) as needed. o Attend workshops facilitated by CAS for the purposes of broadening the resource bandwidth. o Be familiar with content of online resources.
o Attend all meetings/gatherings where chapter scholarship/academic chairmen work together.
Communicate with students o Send reminders of academic support resources and encouragement to students throughout the semester.
Arrange and facilitate study groups & tutoring opportunities o Create a system and process to help students form study groups. o Facilitate connections for all students to feel comfortable to utilize the resources. o Work with staff to hire tutors for Midterms & Finals.
Encourage students to use academic support resources o Keep current information of academic support resources. o Market the resource to all Greek students to ensure a high level of usage gauging appropriate needs during the semester. o Build upon current marketing in building the reputation of the resource to ensure longevity.
Manage and support the learning space o Keep office clean. o Wipe down tables and computers regularly. o Ensure equipment is working at all times and reporting it when it is down. o Keep track of supplies as well as replenish supplies. o Make sure CAS handouts are available. o Manage “Brag Wall” and Study Group Message Board. o Respectfully manage noise levels. o Procure and manage academic resources.
Organization Support- 30%
Serve as the primary advisor to the Greek Ambassadors, an outreach program for current Greek members interested in talking with prospective students, families and alumni about Greek Life at LSU. o This would include coordinating the selection process, training, and implementation of the Greek Ambassador Program. o Serve as the primary contact with Enrollment Management to staff preview days, conduct VIP tours, and other outreach programs.
Assist with the development and execution of the Greek Enhancement Program, to assist Greek organizations with financial assistance to attend conferences and/or programs. o Work with the Greek Fee Advisory Group to assist with the program.
Program Development, Execution, & Initiatives – 15%
Assists with planning and administrative support for all functions and programs of
Greek Life, to include risk management education and leadership development.
Title IX education support for chapters, to include developing curriculum and delivering to chapters.
Dean of Students Support – 5%
Assists the Dean of Students and the Assistant/Associate Dean of Students with projects, reports, events, etc.
Requirements: Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably pursuing a
Master’s or PhD in Higher Education Administration. The applicant must gain full time admission to and enrollment in a graduate program at Louisiana State University. At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA must be maintained throughout their term of appointment.
Additional Qualifications Desired : relevant experience in Student Life, specifically Greek
Life; demonstrated skill strength in the following areas: verbal and written communication, interpersonal relations; experience with leadership development, program development, and event planning; ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituency of students, staff, faculty, and administrators, working independently when necessary and working as a member of a team.
Compensation: The Graduate Assistantship is a 10 month fiscal year appointment with a possibility of summer employment. The assistantship is 20 hours per week with some night and weekend commitments. The compensation consists of a monthly stipend of
$1,200 with a full tuition exemption. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for fees.
