The Founding of St. Augustine

St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival

Sept. 10-13

Celebrate Spanish history in one of the nation’s oldest cities. The festival features Spanish foods and wines presented at a variety of special events and restaurants. The festival includes

Vino Veritas – learn the secrets of authentic Spanish recipes and Spanish wine pairings from

Spanish food and wine experts; the Grand Tasting – sample more than 120 different types of wines made in Spain; and the Batalla de Vinos – participants spray one another with wine for charity, as well as other events. Florida Heritage Book Festival & Writer’s Conference

Sept. 25-27

The 7th annual festival will honor Dr. Robin Cook, the father of the medical thriller, as this year's

“Literary Legend”. John D. MacDonald will be given a posthumous award, and an exhibit of his works will be on display at Flagler College. Over 20 bestselling authors will be presenting throughout the festival day. A panel discussion will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Civil

Colonial Children in La Florida – Story Time and Crafts

Sept. 27

Fort Mose expert tells children and visitors stories of what it was like to be a child growing up in

1738 at Fort Mose, the first free African-American settlement in the United States. Young visitors may also make a leather beaded necklace or bracelet, an ornament from tin or a colonial tricorn hat. For the adventurous, there is a chance to learn about flintlock muskets and drill along with the soldiers and militiamen of Spanish Florida. Location: Fort Mose Historic State

Ponte Vedra Auto Show

Sept. 28

The 12 th annual show features up to 175 classic and new collectors’ cars all vying for the shows’

30 trophies. Event is hosted by the St. Johns Chamber of Commerce and presented by Brumos

Protecting La Florida – Building America's First Black Militia

Oct. 25

Event pays tribute to the “men of color” who defended St. Augustine and Florida throughout its history. Dr. Sherry Johnson, professor of history and director of academic programs at the Latin

American and Caribbean Center/Florida International University, will present a lecture, “The

History of the Black Militia in the Defense of Florida During the Spanish Colonial Period.”

Colonial Autumn in Spanish Florida

Nov. 22

Fall was harvest time for the families living at Fort Mose, who farmed and fished for their food.

In celebration of this occurrence, event will feature a farmers’ market of vegetables, herbs and fruits from colonial Florida that are still grown locally today. Re-enactors will demonstrate how the local produce was cooked in 18th-century Florida. Location: Fort Mose Historic State Park,

The EMMA Concert Association Fall Concerts

The EMMA Concert Association opens its 36 th season Sept. 20 with a performance by the legendary New Orleans’ Preservation Jazz Hall Band. On Sept. 27, the international a cappella phenomenon, the Swingle Singers perform. Afternoon performances include the Italian

United Way Photographic Exhibit
