Unit 5: All About Angles
Text: Math at Work 10
Chapter 5
By the end of this unit, it is expected that students will:
Outcomes
Textbook
1. Demonstrate an understanding of angles including: acute, right,
straight, obtuse and reflex. (Draw, replicate, construct, bisect
and solve problems).







Measure angles, using a protractor, of different orientations.
Draw, sketch and describe angles of various measures.
Identify referents for angles.
Estimate the measure of a given angle, using 22.50, 300, 450, 600,
900 and 1800 as referent angles.
Solve a contextual problem involving angles.
Explain and illustrate how angles can be replicated (Mira, geometry
software, protractor, compass, etc).
Bisect an angle, using a variety of methods.

Section 5.2
Pgs: 234 – 245
2. Solve problems that involve parallel, perpendicular and
transversal lines and pairs of angles formed between them.








Sort a set of lines as perpendicular, parallel or neither and justify.
Illustrate and describe complementary and supplementary angles.
Identify adjacent angles that are not complementary or supplementary.
Identify and name corresponding angles, vertically opposite angles,
alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, interior angles on
same side of transversal, exterior angles on same side of transversal.
Explain and illustrate relationships of angles formed by parallel lines
and a transversal. Explain why these relationships do not exist if the
lines are not parallel.
Determine the measures of these angles.
Determine if lines or planes are perpendicular or parallel (wall, floor).
Solve contextual problems involving angles formed by parallel lines.
3. Analyze puzzles and games that involve spatial reasoning, using
problem-solving strategies.



Determine, explain and verify a strategy to solve a puzzle or win a
game.
Identify and correct errors in puzzles or game winning strategies.
Create a variation to a puzzle or game.
