Medical and dental insurance, paid holidays and vacation and sick leave
are provided as per SafePlace personnel policies. Vision insurance
coverage will be provided after completion of one year of continuous
employment according to SafePlace personnel policies.
SUMMARY
Manage the Sexual Assault Response Program, provide sexual assault advocacy, and perform
other duties as described or as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position include the following. Other duties
may be assigned.
A.
Ensure a 24/7 Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP)
1.
Ensure 24/7 SARP schedule. Work with staff and volunteers to arrange SARP
calendar coverage. Update SARP team phone list and email group lists.
Complete schedule before the first of each month, distribute, and revise as
needed.
2.
If vacancies occur, cover open SARP shifts, as needed.
3.
Mentor and support SARP volunteers. Work with each volunteer weekly or
monthly to establish supervision and training on follow-ups. Complete
evaluations of interns and volunteers. Facilitate monthly SARP team meetings.
B. Provide sexual assault advocacy in person and by telephone.
1.
Provide clients with crisis intervention and advocacy.
2.
Provide medical advocacy (SANE).
3.
Complete follow-ups and on-going case management for sexual assault
survivors, as needed.
4.
Provide legal advocacy for Sexual Assault Protection Orders and anti-harassment
orders as needed.
5.
Provide drop-in advocacy support as assigned.
C. Provide community education and outreach activities as related to the Sexual Assault
Demonstration Initiative Response Plan.
D. Attend Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings as needed. Network with appropriate agencies
to ensure sexual assault advocacy referral process. Participate in the SA/DV Task Force,
monitoring and encouraging the task force to increase its focus on sexual assault issues.
E. Provide prevention activities as outlined in the annual prevention plan.
F. Provide sexual assault trainings for the Advocate Core Training (ACT), advanced SARP
training and other trainings to new staff and volunteers as assigned.
G. Ensure all appropriate documentation and reporting client contact is completed.
H. Attend all direct service advocate meetings as needed and attend all staff meetings as
required.
I.
Work closely with the Sexual Assault Program Coordinator to ensure quality service
delivery.
J. Perform duties as described in a culturally-relevant and respectful manner.
K. Complete and maintain self-care plans to address compassion fatigue, vicarious,
secondary and direct trauma.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
*
High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
*
Two years’ experience providing relevant sexual assault services
*
Experience facilitating groups, workshops and/or trainings.
*
Experience with supervision and leadership.
*
Have basic administrative skills.
*
Ability to navigate relationships with other system/agency representatives in different
roles.
*
Ability to exhibit self-care in a work environment where direct and/or secondary trauma
is likely to occur.
*
Demonstrated commitment to challenging issues of oppression.
*
Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate with people of different
socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
*
Have (or be willing to obtain) a telephone.
*
Commitment to the need for client and agency confidentiality.
*
Agreement with the SafePlace philosophy statement.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
*
Bilingual in Spanish/English.
*
Experience participating in a team oriented work environment.
*
Experience working in a non-profit organization with 24-hour programming.
*
Experience with civil and criminal legal systems.
*
Higher education or training in gender/cultural/therapeutic studies.
*
Completion of the SafePlace ACT training.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Two years’ experience
providing relevant sexual assault services. Specific knowledge, experience and abilities acquired
must include the following:
1. Ability to organize effectively.

4. Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
5. Ability to work independently.
6. Ability to handle stress effectively.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has supervisory and mentoring responsibilities. The Sexual Assault Advocacy
Specialist is expected to provide support, guidance, feedback and evaluation to current SARP
team members.

1. SafePlace initial sexual assault training certification.
2. Valid driver’s license and current automobile liability insurance

TRAINING REQUIRED
Employee is required to complete the initial SafePlace ACT Training and on-the-job crisis line
training with shelter staff. Employee must attend 30 hours of on-going direct service training a
year, which must include 15 hours advocacy, 12 hours of sexual assault training and 3 hours of
CPR training.
