STUDENT PROGRESS and SCORES: Student Progress – Parents may track their student’s progress by utilizing these resources: Read the emailed newsletter for information on what your student is working on in class. Check student’s planning sheet regularly for homework assignments including unit assessments and project due dates. Look at corrected/scored work coming home on Fridays. Ask your student what they are working on both at home and at school. Take time to complete the conference form with your student prior to October conferences. Scores – We use a standards-based assessment system in the Edmonds School District. 4 = Student has provided extensive evidence of exceeding core expectations. 3 = Student has provided sufficient evidence of meeting core expectations. 2 = Student has provided partial evidence of meeting core expectations. 1 = Student has provided little or no evidence of meeting core expectations. On daily work, projects or assessments you can think of the scale in this way: 4 = Exemplary work, goes above and beyond the requirements of the assignment; student has demonstrated knowledge and development of concepts above expectations. 3 = Work meets requirements of the assignment; student has demonstrated knowledge and development of concepts that meets expectations. 2 = Work partially meets requirements of the assignment; student has demonstrated knowledge and development of concepts that is approaching expectations. 1 = Work does not meet requirements of the assignment; student has demonstrated little or no knowledge and development of concepts to meet expectations. Often, on the daily work, projects or assessments, I will include a (+) or (-) next to the score that will give you and the student an idea of how close they are to a solid 2, 3, or 4. However, on the report card, only the whole number is used. Most projects or large, long-term assignments will be described in detail in a handout provided to the student with a rubric of the expectations of the assignment or project. The rubric will be used for scoring. On some work, there will only be an indicator of progress toward meeting core expectations. This is usually work completed in class as practice following a lesson or a quick check of a short assignment or assessment. ★ OK indicating excellent work that meets or exceeds the requirement indicating work that has met the requirement indicating work that does not meet the requirement I do my best to thoroughly communicate expectations to students and work with them to understand their scores. There are many reasons a student may not be meeting expectation. I encourage students to talk with me if they have questions about their progress or scores. If you have questions or concerns about your student’s progress or scores, please contact me via email or by phone.
