As part of this commitment we are offering a stipend, thanks to the support of the Nuffield Foundation, to a selected number of post-graduate students to attend two events: (1) OnePlusOne’s biennial lecture (June 23rd 2014) delivered by American Psychologist, Professor George Vaillant, who will speak about the Harvard Grant Study, the longest longitudinal study ever undertaken, and his role as Principal Investigator. (2) A follow-up event on policy, practice, and research implications the following day (June 24th 2014). The students will get the opportunity to attend both events and talk to OnePlusOne about their own research. Successful applicants should have an interest in the topics of relationships, adult development, aging or longitudinal studies, and be doing or developing research in this area. A subsidy of up to £250 per person is available, subject to your case for support. The closing date for applications is May 21st 2014. Attendance at both events is required to qualify for a subsidy. It has more than four decades of experience in putting research into practice and delivers high-quality evidence-based products for both professionals and families. http://www.oneplusone.org.uk The 2014 Edith Dominian Memorial Lecture Policy and Practice Implications Seminar OnePlusOne’s Edith Dominian Memorial lecture, held biennially, serves as a platform to present innovative research to academics, researchers, policy makers, practitioners, opinion formers and the media to stimulate conversations and new ways of thinking about family relationships and how to support them in modern society. Organised by OnePlusOne and the Cohorts and Longitudinal Studies Enhanced Resources Programme (CLOSER), and hosted by the Nuffield Foundation, this follow-up event will explore the policy, practice and research implications of the themes and issues raised during the lecture. There will be an opportunity to engage in discussion through a group or a roundtable format. This year Professor George Vaillant, an American Psychiatrist and Principal Investigator of the longest longitudinal study of human development ever undertaken, will be our key speaker. Professor Vaillant will be discussing the study and his most recent book Triumphs of Experience: The Men of the Harvard Grant Study, covering the value (and challenges) of longitudinal research in understanding adult development, the importance of relationships to physical and mental health and the significance of social aptitude to successful ageing. This lecture is being held at the British Library Conference Centre, London, 6.30pm on June 23rd 2014. This event is being held at the Nuffield Foundation, London, during the morning (time tbc) of June 24th 2014. Terms and conditions of application A subsidy of up to £250 is available per person. The subsidy requires attendance at both the lecture and follow-up event. The subsidy is open to post-graduate students registered at a UK higher education institution only. The subsidy is available to support travel, subsistence, and overnight accommodation, if applicable.
