Artist Statement
I began my Art career because besides being talented, I wanted to express
myself within each piece of artwork that I would create, by painting my life and
experiences. As my art has developed I have been able to grow as an artist, and
expand my creativity. The initiating goal of my artwork was to be consistent in the type
of art work I would construct. I wanted to be consistent with a theme, and expand
furthermore within the focus of emotion. I am a very passionate person about art, and
one of the secondary goals I had was to learn about different medias and their specific
techniques in order to approach a piece, and convey a message within. The use of color
was one of the most appealing to me throughout my artwork, and the numerous media
brought so much color into my pieces in many ways.
When I started my Art career I was an artist that only focused on portraits. I
would only draw in charcoal, and I would stick to small portraits of different girls in order
to reflect upon them. Then I started continuing the portraits and changing Medias. I
carried on with color pencil, and even used Acrylics. Though I was not content with what
I was producing because I was expanding my style of artwork. Different medias,
techniques and with the help of other Artists like Frida Kahlo significantly influenced me.
I gradually changed by style into a mix of personal inspiration and the method of
surrealism. Surrealism allowed me to show the theme of emotion that I had selected
since the beginning. It allowed me express the different emotion found within my life;
passion, pain, respect, development, fierce, confidence etc. I was able to master the
technique of acrylics, charcoal, and chalk. These medias were important to a high
extent because I was able to combine reality with symbolic elements and not over blend
them. When I used the media it didn’t over blend the drawings or paintings and it
questions the observer.
In my current work I am trying to master the method of surrealism with in my art,
and I am also trying to maintain patience in order to create more detailed artwork to
portray my life experience. I am continuing the emotion theme because I want many of
other observers to relate and connect to my artwork. I am exploring how other artists
use the method of surrealism, and what techniques are required for each of their style in
order to be successful with the method. I am attempting to also explore the technique of
water color because through my process I wasn’t so successful with it, even though it is
an amazing media, and can produce so much vivid color. As an artist I have grown
because I changed my abilities to just draw or paint portraits. I have explored other artist
instead of myself, expanding my focus.
