Sports Day Fun
Thank you to everyone who came to support the children on Sports
Day. The sun was shining and the children enjoyed our multi skills
sports event. A big thank you to all the staff who organised the event
and ensured that water, ice-pops and fresh oranges were available
for the children.
All the children had the opportunity to accumulate points for their
class. The following classes were the overall winners in Key Stage 2.

Congratulations to Year 6 on some fantastic SATs results. All
National Floor Targets exceeded again!
GARDENING NEWS.
The children in Year 2 have been busy growing a variety of fruit
and vegetables this year. Last week they went out and collected
their produce, cooked it using our new class ovens and made a
fantastic stir fry. You would have all been surprised to see how
the children tucked into their vegetables!
We also took part in The Wildflower Centre’s Scarecrow
competition. We built a Scarecrow that represented our school’s
colours and design. The Scarecrow is on display at The Wild
Flower Centre in Huyton. He will certainly scare the crows
away!

Celebration of Music
This week our Flute and Guitar Club invited their Parents to a
small concert. The older guitar members used chords to play
some modern chart songs while our younger members played
some traditional folk songs. The Year 3 flute group were
amazing as they kept in time together, under the direction of their
Music Teacher. On Thursday evening our Keyboard Club utilised
all the different ability groups to play Skyfall for their Parents.
Well done everyone. Flute and Guitar lessons will
be available for our new Year 3 children in Autumn. Key board
lessons are available after school, free of charge to all Key Stage
2 Pupils.
Last weekend our Year 5 pupils took part in The Father Ryan Tournament. They
played very well and were The Walter Tomlinson runners up. Our Year 3 and 4
football team played in the first ever Mark Burgan Knowsley Football
Tournament and brought the cup home to Kirkby! We are the very first school
to win the cup. Well done boys! Our Year 3 Tennis Team who are already
Knowsley Champions came third in The Merseyside Games. The children who
have attended The David Campbell Soccer School this year also graduated.
Ebony Paul in Year 5 also came first 1st out 100 in her dance competition.
Ethan Highton and Harry Farley have also been chosen to represent Kirkby
Boys next year. Wow! How busy have we been! Well done!
A VISIT TO ST MARTIN’S CHURCH
As part of their class work in Religious Education Year 2 had
the opportunity to visit our school governor – Reverend Fagan
at St Martin’s Church. They were shown around the Church,
tried on gowns and were very impressed by the fact the cross
was made from gun metal! The children all wrote letters of
thanks on their return.
SUMMER READING
CHALLENGE
Over the Summer we will be taking
part in The Summer Reading
Challenge. Pupils will be asked to
visit their Library and read a number
of books over the holiday. They all
receive a chart to complete, win
stickers and prizes. Josh, Tyler and
Kyle have already started filling in
their charts. The school who
collects the most stickers wins a
cup for their school. Let’s win
another cup this year!
A number of free activities will be
taking place in the Library during
July and August.

To change the text at the very bottom of each page of your
newsletter, click Headers and Footers on the View menu.
Use the Header and Footer toolbar to open the footer, and

It is a good idea to place a small symbol at the end of each

will not continue onto another page. Position your cursor at
the end of the article, click Symbol on the Insert menu,
choose the symbol you want, and then click Insert.
