Sports Day Fun Thank you to everyone who came to support the children on Sports Day. The sun was shining and the children enjoyed our multi skills sports event. A big thank you to all the staff who organised the event and ensured that water, ice-pops and fresh oranges were available for the children. All the children had the opportunity to accumulate points for their class. The following classes were the overall winners in Key Stage 2. 1st Place 3S 2nd Place 6M 3rd Place The children have all met their new teacher’s during our school 5P transition afternoon. We will be having our INSPIRE days in the Autumn Term where you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher. Congratulations to Year 6 on some fantastic SATs results. All National Floor Targets exceeded again! GARDENING NEWS. The children in Year 2 have been busy growing a variety of fruit and vegetables this year. Last week they went out and collected their produce, cooked it using our new class ovens and made a fantastic stir fry. You would have all been surprised to see how the children tucked into their vegetables! We also took part in The Wildflower Centre’s Scarecrow competition. We built a Scarecrow that represented our school’s colours and design. The Scarecrow is on display at The Wild Flower Centre in Huyton. He will certainly scare the crows away! The older guitar members used chords to play some modern chart songs while our younger members played some traditional folk songs. The Year 3 flute group were amazing as they kept in time together, under the direction of their Music Teacher. On Thursday evening our Keyboard Club utilised all the different ability groups to play Skyfall for their Parents. Well done everyone. Flute and Guitar lessons will be available for our new Year 3 children in Autumn. Key board lessons are available after school, free of charge to all Key Stage 2 Pupils. Last weekend our Year 5 pupils took part in The Father Ryan Tournament. They played very well and were The Walter Tomlinson runners up. Our Year 3 and 4 football team played in the first ever Mark Burgan Knowsley Football Tournament and brought the cup home to Kirkby! We are the very first school to win the cup. Well done boys! Our Year 3 Tennis Team who are already Knowsley Champions came third in The Merseyside Games. The children who have attended The David Campbell Soccer School this year also graduated. Ebony Paul in Year 5 also came first 1st out 100 in her dance competition. Ethan Highton and Harry Farley have also been chosen to represent Kirkby Boys next year. Wow! How busy have we been! Well done! A VISIT TO ST MARTIN’S CHURCH As part of their class work in Religious Education Year 2 had the opportunity to visit our school governor – Reverend Fagan at St Martin’s Church. They were shown around the Church, tried on gowns and were very impressed by the fact the cross was made from gun metal! The children all wrote letters of thanks on their return. SUMMER READING CHALLENGE Over the Summer we will be taking part in The Summer Reading Challenge. Pupils will be asked to visit their Library and read a number of books over the holiday. They all receive a chart to complete, win stickers and prizes. Josh, Tyler and Kyle have already started filling in their charts. The school who collects the most stickers wins a cup for their school. Let’s win another cup this year! A number of free activities will be taking place in the Library during July and August. INSERT SYMBOL It is a good idea to place a small symbol at the end of each article to let the reader know that the article is finished and will not continue onto another page. Position your cursor at the end of the article, click Symbol on the Insert menu, choose the symbol you want, and then click Insert. BORDERS You can use page borders and text box borders to change the appearance of your newsletter. Borders on text boxes help keep different articles separate, and can set off sidebar articles from the rest of the page. To change a text box border, select it, double click its edge and choose the Colours and Lines tab in the Format Auto Shape dialogue box. Inserting and Editing Pictures Type your sub-heading here You can replace the pictures in this template with your company’s art. Select the picture you want to replace, point to Picture in the Insert menu, and click From File. Choose a new picture and then click Insert. Select the Link to File box if you don’t want to embed the art in the newsletter. This is a good idea if you need to minimize your file size; embedding a picture adds significantly to the size of the file. To edit a picture, click on it to activate the Picture toolbar.
