ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENTS: Uniform: o Students must be in their correct uniform as per their education provider. o Uniforms must be clean and changed daily if students are providing direct patient care. o Uniforms should be non-restrictive and allow full unrestricted freedom of movement. All postures should be able to be undertaken safely without compromising the dignity of the staff member or patient. o Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times o Students must at all times wear their student ID badge Hair: o Neat and tidy, off the face and collar. Long hair should be neatly tied back. Beards: o Neat and tidy Jewellery & Piercing: o Should be kept to a minimum so that offence or occupational health and safety hazard is not caused. o Sleeper or stud earrings are acceptable. o Facial piercings are discouraged, however, if present, should be kept to a minimum and be in the form of a stud so that occupational health and safety risks are minimised. o A wedding ring may be worn but should be removed prior to performing aseptic procedures. o Bracelets or bangles are not permitted (medic alert bracelets permitted) o A wrist watch may be worn but should be removed prior to performing aseptic procedures and activities that may place the patient at risk, i.e. manual handling. Finger Nails: o Nails should be natural, clean and sufficiently short to ensure safe patient contact. Nail polish and acrylic nails are not permitted to be 29 May 2012 worn whilst on placement. Students presenting on placement with acrylic nails will be given 24 hours to have them removed prior to placement being cancelled. Head dress: o Where a scarf or veil is worn as part of religious observance, staff must secure the garment so that it does not interfere with work practices. Bum bags or Joey Bags: o are not to be worn Mobile phones: o Personal mobile phones are not to be used in the clinical area. Students are required to: o Be punctual at all times for commencement of shifts, returning from meal breaks etc. If the student is late for any reason they will need to notify the ward. o Notify the ward and their facilitator if off sick and when returning. If any makeup time is required this is to be discussed with your education provider and the provider will put in a formal request for make up placement. Do not request this makeup placement from the ward. o If a change of shift is required, the student will need to arrange a swap with a student of the same level AND notify the CSC and /or preceptor so details can be changed in the allocation pages. If there are no other students on the ward, discuss the change of shift with the CSC and/or preceptor. o Ensure they do not discuss the placement on social media (facebook) o Be aware of the length of their placement and when assessments are due and ensure they inform ward staff/CSC/preceptor with adequate notice when assessments are due. Do not expect or assume on the last day that appraisals will be done if you have not adequately informed the ward staff of this previously. Have evidence of: o Immunisations 29 May 2012 Police clearance ( current within 3 years) Hand Hygiene Australia certificate completion the SA Health online orientation This evidence needs to be with the students throughout their clinical placement as it may be requested at any time. 29 May 2012
