Paraprofessional Process Included in this packet: I. Process for determining the Initial Need for Additional Paraprofessional Support II. Copies of all forms should be maintained in the students file at school and sent to Brigham. Updated 6/18/2013 Process for adding INITIAL Paraprofessional Support 1. Case manager submits referral request form (form A) to the Psychologist or Social Worker. (For FIE’s the Psychologist and/or Social Worker will complete form A) 2. Student’s case manager meets with the building School Psychologist and/or Social Worker to express a need/concern for adding Paraprofessional support on behalf of a student with an IEP. Case Manager MUST a. Complete the Need for Additional Support Rubric (Form B) b. Have compiled current IEP goal data specific to the area of needed support (summarize this data in written and/or graphed format) 3. IEP team schedules a Domain Meeting with the Building Administrator in attendance (Mandatory) a. This meeting is considered a full evaluation/re-evaluation and therefore ALL domains must be addressed. b. The IEP team must determine what data will be collected including an internal observation completed by the school psychologist or social worker using own observation form or data tracking tool. c. IEP team will set the Eligibility/IEP meeting date within 60 school days. 4. All Members of the IEP Team will: a. Compile necessary data for all domain areas (including an internal building observation of the student by the school Psychologist or Social Worker). b. Set the date for an Informal Meeting w/ the IEP team to discuss data collected in all domain areas. 5. Informal meeting to discuss data: a. Meet w/ the IEP team and Building Administrator (suggested) b. Using Summary of Evaluation form (form C), determine whether a Paraprofessional is recommended or not recommended. i. If the team recommends a Paraprofessional, the chart on (form C) must be completed. ii. A schedule form must be completed based on the students grade level 6. School Psychologist and/or Social Worker will meet with the Building Administrator to determine if existing staff can meet the above needs of the student. 7. If more staff is necessary to fill this need then the Building Administrator needs to: a. Contact the Special Education Director and Human Resources Director. b. Update building Special Education Spreadsheet. 8. An Eligibility/IEP meeting is held with the Building Administrator in attendance. Informal meeting to discuss data: a. Meet w/ the IEP team to determine whether additional Paraprofessional support is necessary based off of current data and internal observation. 5. School Psychologist and/or Social Worker will meet with the Building Administrator to determine if existing staff can meet the above needs of the student. 6. If more staff is necessary to fill this need then the Building Administrator needs to: a. Contact the Special Education Director and Human Resources Director. b. Update building Special Education Spreadsheet. 7. An IEP Review/Revision meeting is held only if there is to be an increase of Paraprofessional support. a. Information must be added to the additional notes pages of the IEP to note that there will be an increase of teaching assistant support Updated 6/18/2013
