Glossary and Key Words
1. Noun – a word used to describe a person, place or thing. Eg. John is a boy.
2. Verb – a word that describes the actions of a subject in a sentence. Eg John is
playing soccer.
3. Adjective – a word used to give more meaning to a noun. Eg John is a tall boy.
4. Pronoun – a word used to replace a noun. Eg. John is 8 years old. He is in year 3.
5. Audience – the person reading the story or the person a story is written for.
6. Purpose – what the writer would like the reader to understand from the text.
Suggested Homework Activities
 Write sentences using some of the key words listed in this document.
 Write two sentences and join them together with a joining word. Eg, and, but,
because etc
 Write five sentences that use action verbs and draw a picture of each.
 Write a paragraph with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.

 Coral Reef- shallow water environment that is close to the land.
Suggested Homework Activities
 Talk about your local environment and it’s features.
 Talk about examples of different types of wet and dry environments eg The
Amazon Rainforest, the Sahara Desert.
 Talk about the different animals that are found in wet and dry environments.
 Talk about the different plants that are found in wet and dry environments.
 Talk about how people can change the environment in positive and negative ways.
 Write sentences using the key words.
