NAME (REALLY NEED THIS FROM YOU! ___________________________
Science Teacher and period and A or B day_________________________________________________
Please read the description and write next to it your interest. 0 Means no interest at all and 5 means
you REALLY REALLY want to do that event.
1. Air Trajectory: Build a canon like device to shoot ping pong balls at a target. Must be willing to
work on your own time at home in addition to practices at school.
Interest level (0-5)______________
2. Anatomy and Physiology: Biology event related to Human Anatomy and Physiology focusing on
the Cardiovascular, Integumentary, and Immune systems. DISCLAIMER: Live cadavers may be
used at the state competition as well as parts of one…
Interest level (0-5)______________
3. Bio-Process Lab: A biology lab or labs will be provided at stations. May include: Collecting data,
using microscopes, genetic probability, interpreting graphs and diagrams, basic calculations,
dichotomous keys, drawing conclusions.
Interest level (0-5)______________
4. Bottle Rocket: Design and build two rockets out of 2-liter bottle(s) designed to stay aloft the
longest time.
Interest level (0-5)______________
5. Bridge Building: Design and build the lightest balsa wood bridge that holds the most weight.
May involve buying some of your own materials ($20 or less)
Interest level (0-5)______________
6. Can’t Judge a Powder: CSI forensics are used to determine the identity of an unknown white
powder. Once it is identified you will answer questions about the powder.
Interest level (0-5)______________
7. Crave the Wave: Knowledge and lab skills related to all kinds of waves and wave motions.
Includes: Electromagnetic spectrum, earthquake waves, sound and light waves, spectroscopy.
Interest level (0-5)______________
8. Crime Busters: Full CSI experience! Solve a crime using chemistry to identify powders, metals,
and liquids. Polymer identification, hair and fiber identification, chromatography, fingerprints,
DNA, shoe prints, tire treads, soil components and spatters. Draw a conclusion of which suspect
did it and use your evidence to prove it.
Interest level (0-5)______________
9. Disease Detectives: Investigate diseases and their impact on populations based on data, trends,
and types of illnesses.
Interest level (0-5)______________
10. Dynamic Planet: Compete with questions about physical and geological oceanography.
Interest level (0-5)______________
11. Elastic Launched Glider: Design and build a balsa wood plane (probably with tissue paper wings)
that is launched with a rubber band with the goal being to keep it aloft the longest.
Interest level (0-5)______________
12. Entomology: Bugs and all their kin! Identify insects both as adults and as developing critters
based on their order and family. Dichotomous keys are likely to be involved.
Interest level (0-5)______________
13. Experimental Design: Get a box of stuff, design and conduct an experiment, and draw
conclusions from your data all in 45 minutes!
Interest level (0-5)______________
14. Fossils: Identify and understand the ecological role of ancient living things. Stations will be set
up with different fossils and ask about the critter as well as the environment in which the fossil
was formed.
Interest level (0-5)______________
15. Green Generation: Understand and explain basic ecology, the human impact on the
environment (past, present, and future), proposed solutions and sustainability.
Interest level (0-5)______________
16. Meteorology: Test your skills about Earth systems and how humans have impacted our global
climate.
Interest level (0-5)______________
17. Picture This: Science concept Pictionary! You and your partners take turns drawing science
concepts and guessing what is being drawn. 25 terms in 4 minutes!
Interest level (0-5)______________
18. Road Scholar: Using topographic maps, highway maps, and satellite images to locate features on
the maps and answer questions about their findings.
Interest level (0-5)______________
19. Robo-Cross: Build and run a robotic arm that can pick up objects and deposit them in containers
in a given time.
Interest level (0-5)______________
20. Simple Machines: Design and run a simple machine during competition as well as answering
questions about simple machines and mechanical advantage.
Interest level (0-5)______________
21. Solar System: Study and explain the properties and evolution of water and ice in the solar
system beyond Earth. A lab experiment will also take place.
Interest level (0-5)______________
22. Wheeled Vehicle: Design and build (and test) an elastic powered car that stops at a given point
between 9 and 12 m. This event will require time spent at home in addition to practices at
school.
Interest level (0-5)______________
23. Write it, Do it: One partner is shown an object and writes directions for the other partner to
build the same object given the materials. The writer has 25 minutes and a set of guidelines to
follow in writing their directions. The directions and disconnected materials are given to the
other partner and they have 20 minutes to try to replicate the same object based on the
instructions from their partner.
