Head Teacher: David Read Our Ref: N/Excursions/LS/DW September 2015 Dear Parent/Carer The Art Department is pleased to offer your child an opportunity to be part of an Art trip to Liverpool and Manchester on 16 and 17 June 2016. The trip will take two days with one overnight stay at a Youth Hostel situated opposite the Albert Docks in Liverpool. The excursion is open to Year 9 GCSE Art and Design students. This trip will allow students to widen and develop their knowledge and understanding of the Arts, and use this experience as inspiration for their art work. The excursion will include visits to the Tate Liverpool, The Lowry and Public art by Anthony Gormly and Juame Plensa. There are many educational benefits, but mainly this trip will enable students to experience the best of the Arts past and present in internationally acclaimed collections. It will allow students to study the context of art movements and individual practitioners and develop an appreciation of the wide spectrum of art and design specialisms. Drawings and work completed on the visit will be used as an integral part of their coursework. ITINERARY: Day: Depart at 07.00 hours from school. Arrive at Tate Liverpool for gallery visit. Trip across the Mersey on ‘Snowdrop’ Visit Crosby beach to see Gormley sculptures Dinner at Pizza Express. Evening activity to be formalised. Day 2: Breakfast, then a visit to see a public sculpture by Plensa. Gallery visit to The Lowry in Manchester and artist led activity. Packed lunch Return to school around 8pm The cost of the excursion which includes everything on the itinerary is £120.00. Places for the excursion are limited to 46. Typically trips at Scalby School are over-subscribed and, in the event of having too many students wishing to go, we will draw names from a hat in order to select the students who will participate. Poor behaviour in school will also preclude acceptance on the trip because government guidelines now state that teachers should satisfy themselves that all students on the trip will behave responsibly. For your child to be able to attend please complete the permission slip below and return it to school. If you have not already returned the medical form sent to you by Mr McCluskie at the beginning of the academic year, please return it with the slip below. Without this form we regret your child will not be able to participate in this excursion. If you have returned your child’s form but the medical details have changed please inform us of the changes. If your child is allocated a place then the first instalment of £25 is due no later than Friday 16 October. The second instalment of £25 must be paid by January. After the initial deposit is paid subsequent payments may be made through the Parent Pay system, or alternatively students may take payments to Mrs Staton, in the Student Excursion Payment Office (Languages Block) on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday break time only. Con’t .... Under the terms of the 1988 Education Act we are not permitted to levy a charge for this visit. However, no LEA or School funds exist to cover the cost and we are therefore seeking a voluntary contribution per student. However, the visit cannot take place unless each parent/carer makes the full contribution. You should also be aware that, should you cancel your child’s place after payment of the initial deposit, cancellation charges will apply. I can provide details of these upon request. I intend to hold an information evening for students and parents a month before the trip to answer any questions you may have regarding the excursion. I shall contact you with the time and venue soon after the Easter holidays. If you have any questions prior to this date, please do not hesitate to contact me on the above number.
