Southcoast Center for Primary and Specialty Care in Fairhaven opens
Southcoast Physicians Group Mattapoisett is first to occupy the new space with many
additional services coming later this summer
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Southcoast™ Physicians Group Mattapoisett practice is the
first to arrive at the new Southcoast Center for Primary and Specialty Care medical office
building in Fairhaven, providing primary care services to patients in the new location as of June
17.
Family practice physician Joseph A. Costa, DO; pediatrician and internist David S.
Chesney, MD; pediatrician and internist Michael R. Kelly, MD; and family practice physician
Drew L. Nahigyan, MD, are now seeing patients at the new two-story, 61,000 square-foot facility
located at 208 Mill Road in Fairhaven, just three miles from their Mattapoisett office. Also
located at the site is the Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care.
“The Southcoast Center for Primary and Specialty Care brings together primary care
physicians, diagnostic testing, specialists and more — under one roof. This is significantly more
convenient for patients who previously had to travel to and from multiple locations to receive
their care. Having providers in one location also enhances communication and the overall
delivery of care,” said Warren Wood, MD, President of Southcoast Physician Services. “Even
more, the new center offers our patients and the community better access to medical specialists,
the very latest diagnostic technology anywhere in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility and a
seven-day-a-week walk-in urgent care center.”
In addition to the Mattapoisett physicians, the Southcoast Physicians Group Buttonwood
practice will relocate to the new Fairhaven center in September and includes internists Kristin
Anderson, MD; Gary Grosart, MD; John Podkowa, MD; Rashmi Sharma, MD; and Dilma Silva,
MD.
The new center also includes a retail pharmacy that opened to the public this week,
offering a complete inventory of medications at competitive prices and is staffed by experienced
pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Over-the-counter medications and personal health care
items are also available. The retail pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. with extended hours, including weekend hours, beginning at the end of August.
Beginning in August, Southcoast will begin to bring together a team of more than 30
specialists offering expert care in general surgery, thoracic surgery, colorectal surgery,
cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, pulmonology, dermatology and urology
to the new facility. Comprehensive outpatient radiology and cardiac testing services offered at the
center will include X-ray, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, bone densitometry/dual energy X-ray
absorptiometry (DEXA) scanning, electrocardiogram (EKG), Holter monitoring, pulmonary
function testing, and echocardiology
The Southcoast Urgent Care Center will open at the same location in August. The urgent
care center is open to the public and will operate seven days per week with no appointments
necessary.
Southcoast Center for Primary and Specialty Care support staff will include pharmacists,
physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners, medical assistants, laboratory phlebotomists
and technologists, EKG technicians, respiratory therapists, and radiology technologists dedicated
to providing the best care for their patients.
Public Transportation
Beginning July 1, the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA) will add a bus
stop at Southcoast Center for Primary and Specialty Care. Passengers will be able to access the
new center by way of public transportation via the existing Fairhaven Route 11.
