What is General Music?
General Music is an exciting class that learns about many different parts and types of music.
What will we be doing in General Music?
We will study a wide range of subjects that deal directly and indirectly with music. We will sing,
read, play instruments, write, draw and interpret, share feelings, dance and move to many different
styles of music from different time periods in history. We can have the opportunity to use the
piano lab and the computer lab for some of our projects. We will be following the standards for
music as stated by the State of Ohio.
What is expected of me in General Music?
I expect the student to participate in everything we do in class. This is at least 50% of the grade!
Participation progress can be tracked through Class Dojo. I do not expect you to be a great singer,
dancer, artist, or writer, but I DO expect a best effort and an open mind. We will be experiencing
many new things this year. Everything is a part of learning. The more knowledge you gain the
better student you can be in music and your other classes. Knowledge is Power!
Participation, Quizzes, Homework, Classroom Assignments
The Participation grade is a daily grade based on the student's behavior,
attitude, preparedness, and effort.
Participation can be tracked through Class Dojo.

Students may also be given written work and evaluations to reinforce musical
concepts. It is always important to come prepared to learn with the needed
materials and a learning attitude.
Computer Lab Curriculum
We will use the computer lab for part of our music curriculum. This uses a software that teaches
basic musical concepts and allows the students to learn at their own pace. Students will need to
pass off certain levels. The final grade for their effort on the computer lab curriculum will be
posted in the 4th quarter.
It is much easier to hear the computer lessons if each student has a set of their own headphones/ear
buds. There are a limited number of headphones/earbuds for general use. It is suggested to bring
your own, if you don’t want to share earbuds with everyone.
*OPTIONAL headphones for personal use
Dollar stores often carry sets for $1.00!!

*1 pair earbuds/headphones with 1/8” jack (3.5 mm)
Headphones should be turned in having been opened (out of package) and stored in a ziplock bag.
Paper inside the ziplock bag should have the student’s
MUSIC
FIRST and LAST name and Music class period clearly written.

If a student withdraws before the end of the school year,
it is the student's responsibility to get their headphones before leaving Spinning Hills.
