Name: H Lit Links Writing a Companion Book for your Independent Reading Novel You have written many journal entries in which you have explored a wide range of topics you noticed in your novel. Now it is time to take your writing to the next level by developing your ideas further and polishing your work. The project is to create a companion book to your novel. Companion books are books that explore certain elements of a novel (or other text) in depth. You already have the foundation work for this project complete. Your W.A.R. journal entries are your starting point, but you are not limited to those entries if other ideas emerge in this process. Your companion book will need to include 4 chapters, each on a different topic. ***Each chapter should be about a page long.*** Look at the following list of possible chapter topics: Analysis of a theme/message/big idea Analysis of conflict Good vs. evil Character analysis How the setting affects the story Comparison (compare characters, compare something before & after, etc) Analysis of character growth or progression of story & what is responsible for the growth/progression (You may include no more than 2 of these choices:) Prequel chapter Sequel chapter Diary entries (3) as a character Social Media/text interaction between 2 characters or among a group of characters “Survival Kit” for your main character (items he or she needs to survive) You must complete this packet before you begin typing. The final version will be typed and include the following: MLA Format o Times New Roman o Size 12 font o Double space the entire document (use formatting, do not do it by hitting “enter”) o Correct heading (your name, teacher’s name, class name, due date this way: 2 May 2015) A title for each chapter 4 chapters A quote in each section that is cited correctly (author’s last name and page number). IMPORTANT NOTE: a quote does not have to be a line of dialog that appears in “ ” in your book. Rather, it is a line that is lifted directly from your book, but is placed in “ ” because you are using the line word for word. You must give credit to the author for the line that you use.
