Kindergarten Summer 2014 Reading Program
WESTRIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The purpose of the PWCS Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to
continue developing their independent reading skills. Student participation in the program is voluntary. Students who
choose to participate in the program are required to complete a minimum number of readings over the summer.
Students participating in the program in Kindergarten will complete a list of books read. The documentation is to include the name of the
author, the title of the book, and a parent or guardian statement that the student has completed the reading.
For Kindergarten students who participate in Prince William County Public Library's Summer Reading Program, the Public Library
documentation will apply.
Students in Kindergarten will receive an extra S+ for each book completed, for a total of five.
Completion of the summer reading will be recorded for students by the end of the second week of school.
The following titles are suggestions for summer reading. Other books selected by the student with guidance from a parent/guardian
and/or librarian are also acceptable. Participation in the PWC Public Library Summer Reading Program and its documentation is also
acceptable.

The adventure turns dramatic when Trixie realizes somebunny was left

When Bear finds a lost stuffed toy bunny in the forest, he begins to worry.
After all, the stuffed bunny must feel lonely and want to return safely to its
owner and home! But as Bear diligently searches for the bunny’s owner, posting
notices high and low, he begins to grow attached to his newfound friend.

When his friend, the tadpole, becomes a frog and leaves to explore the world,
the little fish decides that maybe he doesn’t need to remain in the pond
either.
An alphabet rhyme/chant that relates what happens when the whole alphabet
tries to climb a coconut tree.
Children see a variety of animals, each one a different color, and a mother
