Social Studies: Chapter 1 MIGRATION TO THE AMERICAS
In this chapter you discovered that people did not arrive by plane or train. They
crossed a land bridge from northeastern Asia to what is now Alaska. You can't
cross that land bridge since it is now under the Bering Strait. However, during
the Ice Age, that strip of land was used.
The environment influences us today just like in the past. People could not stay
in one place when they hunted for food. Once farming started, people were able
to stay in one place and establish communities a lot like the feeling of
community in your neighborhoods.
To help you prepare for the test, please review some of the key terms. You will
do very well on this test.

Hohokam - dug irrigation channels since their environment did not provide
enough water for their crops
Anasazi - their environment was surrounded by cliffs and stones so they built
their homes in the stones/cliffs
Inuit - wore sealskins and build igloos to keep warm
