Weekly Spelling Contract
ACTIVITY

understand what it is. Just simply ABC is not enough. Due Friday.

Mr. Perrine’s Weekly Spelling Contract
Use your spelling words to complete your weekly spelling assignments. Complete any
combination of activities with your spelling words to equal 100 points. Write the value and
number of each activity at the top of your paper. All work must be handwritten (unless stated
in the activity). Assignments must be correct and complete to receive the points for that
activity. SPELLING WORDS WILL BE GIVEN OUT ON MONDAYS AND TESTS ARE ON
FRIDAYS. ALL SPELLING ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE ON FRIDAYS. You may not use the
same activity more than once in a week (ex: 2 notes for studying or 2 tests). You must have a
cover sheet on the front of your spelling contract that lists the activity and points. This will be
worth 10 points per week and students may do up to 20 points extra for 2 extra-credit points.
10 Point activities
1. Write the words 5x each.
2. Write the words and circle all the consonants.
3 Write the words and circle all the vowels.
4. Write the words in reverse ABC order.
5. Write the words using 5 different colors.
6. Write each word. Next to the word, write a synonym for that word.
7. Write each word. Next to the word, write an antonym for that word.
8. Write each word. Next to the word, write a rhyming word.
15 Point Activities
1. Study the words for at least 15 minutes at home. You must bring in a note written and signed
by your parent.
2. Scramble the letters in each word. Write the word next to each scrambled word.
3. Do a word sort, sorting all of the words in 4 categories with a common rule.
4. Print each word. Next to it, write it in cursive.
5. Type each word. Next to it, write it in cursive.
6. Type each word in a different font. Next to it, write the word in print.
20 Point Activities
1. Write each word and divide it into syllables. (Use a dictionary to help you.)
2. Take a practice test at home. Write any missed words 5x each. You must have a parent
signature on the test.
3. Use each word in a sentence. Sentences must be 7 words or longer. Do not start more than
two sentences with the same word. Circle the spelling words.
4. Make flashcards for all the spelling words. Write the word on the front and the definition on
the back.
5. Ransom words. Cut the letters for each word out of a newspaper or magazine. Glue them on
a sheet of paper like “ransom” words.
6. Write a sentence for each word. Use different colors to identify the different parts of
speech (nouns-blue; verbs-red; pronouns-yellow; adjectives-purple; adverbs-green).
35 Point Activities
1. Make and complete a crossword puzzle using www.puzzlemaker.com. You cannot use this the
same week you use the word search.
2. Write or type a story using all the words. It must make sense. Circle the spelling words.
3. Find the words in a newspaper or magazine and make a collage.
4. Write each word. Write an antonym next to it and then use the antonym in a sentence.
Circle the antonym in the sentence.
5. Write each word. Write a synonym next to it and then use the synonym in a sentence. Circle
the synonym in the sentence.
6. Make and complete a word search using www.puzzlemaker.com. You cannot use this the same
week you use the crossword puzzle.
7. Write a poem with your spelling words. Try to make your poem rhyme.
8. Write the alphabet on a piece of paper. Under A, write $1.00. Under B, write $2.00, and so
on. Figure up the dollar amount of each of your Spelling words.
9. Create a picture dictionary for your spelling words. Pictures must be colored.
A 90-100 points
B 80-89 points
C 70-79 points
D 65-69 points
F 65 points or below
**All activities must be done in pencil. YOU WILL LOSE 10 POINTS FOR NOT FOLLOWING
DIRECTIONS!
**Each activity must be on a separate page. Make sure EACH PAGE has your name, date, and
your # in the upper right hand corner. Also include the information stated at the top of this
page.
**Staple all sheets together.
** Students will have 15 minutes of class time to work on their Spelling work.
