Course Title:
Contemporary Spanish Culture and Society through Film
1. Program Objective #1: Oral Proficiency: students will be able to:
 Converse in a clearly participatory fashion
 Initiate, sustain, and bring to closure a wide variety of communicative tasks,
including those that require an increased ability to convey meaning with diverse
language strategies due to a complications or an unforeseen turn of events
 Satisfy the requirements of school and work situations, and
 Narrate and describe with paragraph-length connected discourse.
2. Program Objective #2: Writing: students will be able to:
 Argue, describe, collect and practice the lexical and syntactic aspects of the
target language through the arrangement of words, sentences and paragraphs
 Communicate conclusions from research and argue their case and position in
Spanish
 Demonstrate satisfactory control of the language by writing.
3. Program Objective #3: Cultural Awareness: students will be able to:
 Demonstrate a more full understanding of the people of Latin American and
Spain
 Have studied concepts and information and show understanding of the
civilization and fine art of Latin America and Spain, including art, literature,
history, geography, music and architecture.
4. Program Objective #4: Literature Analysis: students will be able to:
 Comprehend and use comfortably a variety of literary lexicon.
 Interpret and analyze literary texts in Spanish.
 Interpret and analyze the significance of time, place, class in which the works of
literature in Spanish were created.
 Evaluate and construct arguments in Spanish when comparing two or more literary
pieces belonging to different periods of time.
• Students will be able to write an academic film analysis.
Students will be able to write five page analysis using grammatically correct Spanish at an
advanced level.
• Students will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of particular periods in the
XIX through XXI centuries.
• Students will have the skills to understand the visual techniques used for communicating
through film.
• Students will develop an appreciation of what distinguishes film as an art form.
