Rooftop Composting solution This weekend I have made my rooftop compost heap. I have a small rooftop and I have been looking on Google about ideas of how to make a compost heap because I felt bad about letting my organic waste go. I spoke to Nell (founder of Sustainable East Africa) about it and she gave me some guidelines and sent me some pictures of her compost heap. I got all the ingredients top make 2 compost heaps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Chicken wire (from my neighbor) approx 3 meters 2 dishwashing basins (@7000 TSH each) the circum was about 1.38cm Some cardboard boxes (found on the street) Some garden waste from the Jamuri park Tie ribs ( to tie the wire together) Lid (I used an ungo – I only know the Swahili word, it is used to separate the stones from the rice etc.) It took me 10 minutes to prepare! I measured the basin, cut the wire, tied the wire in a circle – fitted it inside the dishwashing basin – lined it with cardboard – went to the park to get some garden waste (to keep the bottom of the heap airy) – added my kitchen waste on it and fitted a lid loosely on top of it.
