On motion of ____________________, seconded by ______________ the
following resolution was offered:
RESOLUTION NO. __________
A resolution ratifying and authorizing the Complementary
Booth Agreement with National Council of La Raza for the
free use of a booth at its National Latino Family Expo and
Annual Conference on July 20 – 23, 2013, at the Ernest N.
Morial Convention Center. (Council District No.
).
WHEREAS, the Parish of Jefferson has the largest Hispanic/Latino population of
any parish within the State of Louisiana, totaling more than fifty three thousand seven
hundred (53,700) individuals at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census; and
WHEREAS, while the population of Louisiana increased by 1% between 2000 and
2010, the Hispanic/Latino population of Louisiana increased by 79% between 2000 and
2010; and
WHEREAS, the Hispanic/Latino population has steadily increased its
contribution to the commerce and industry of the Parish of Jefferson; and
WHEREAS, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) will hold the National Latino
Family Expo and Annual Conference on July 20 – 23, 2013, at the Ernest N. Morial
Convention Center; and.
WHEREAS, the annual conference is the largest yearly gathering of influential
leaders and newsmakers in the Hispanic/ Latino community, with an expectation of
upwards of 25,000 attendees for New Orleans Expo held in July 2013; and
WHEREAS, the NCLR National Latino Family Expo is one of the largest events in
the country focused on resources and activities for the Latino family, with more than
200 exhibitors showcasing their products and services, and is free of charge, open to
all, and provides free health screenings, career and educational opportunities and
training; and
WHEREAS, NCLR has offered the Parish a complimentary 10 X 10 booth for the
Expo; and
WHEREAS, the PARISH will benefit by having an opportunity to demonstrate its
value as a residential community and its wealth of opportunities for growth and
development of new businesses created, owned and operated by the Hispanic/Latino
population; and
WHEREAS, the booth will serve as an informational booth only, allowing the Office
of Citizens’ Affairs to distribute information concerning Jefferson Parish.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Jefferson Parish Council of
Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, acting as governing authority of said Parish:
SECTION 1. That the Jefferson Parish Council does hereby authorize and
approve the execution of Complementary Booth Agreement with National Council of La
Raza for the free use of a booth at its National Latino Family Expo and Annual
Conference on July 20 – 23, 2013, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
SECTION 2. That the Chairman of the Jefferson Parish Council or in his absence,
the Vice-Chairman, be and is hereby authorized to sign and approve all documents
necessary to implement the resolution.
