Week in Review
Spelling – This week we
incorporated some Core Knowledge
vocabulary in the spelling list. The
kids learned about the prefixes reand un-.
Reading – Most of the students
continued to independently read
biographies this week. As an entire
group, we also read some Norse
Mythology. The students read
Baldur, Sif and Her Godlen Hair, and
The Punishment of Loki. Next week
we will begin reading Native
American legends.
Writing – The students began a new
writing topic this week. Their task is
to write an original myth using one of
the Norse gods or goddesses. This is
the first narrative the students have
written this year, so it will be a long
and thorough process.
Math –This week we had lessons on
finding missing addends, subtracting
2-digit numbers, writing numbers to
1,000 using words, and adding and
subtracting multiples of 100.
History – We completed our unit on
the Vikings this week. The students
learned about Leif Ericson, Norse
gods and goddesses, and they
practiced writing using the rune
alphabet. The kids also took the unit
test. Next week we will begin a new
history unit on early Native
Americans. During this unit, we will
also learn a little about our local
Native history and culture.
