Gamzigrad - Felix Romuliana is an archaeological site, spa resort and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Serbia, located south of the Danube river, near the city of Zaječar. It is the location of the ancient Roman complex of palaces and temples Felix Romuliana, built by Emperor Galerius. Close to Stari Ras, the first capital of Serbia under the Nemanjić dynasty, in the vicinity of Novi Pazar, there is a group of mediaeval sites comprising fortresses, monasteries and churches which in 1979 were entered into the UNESCO World Heritage List under the joint name of Stari Ras and Sopoćani. The most important sites in this group are Sopoćani monastery, Đurđevi Stupovi monastery, the church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (St Peter’s church) and the remains of the Ras and Gradina fortresses. The remains preserved in this area are testimony to the oldest forms of authentic Serbian artistic expression and represent the zenith of creativity in the period between the 10th and 14th centuries. Biogradska Gora, the oldest of Montenegro's national parks was founded as long ago as 1878 by King Nikola, who decided with great foresight to preserve its incredible natural heritage for posterity. On the edge of this national park is the Moraca monastery (13th cent.) with its beautiful and important frescoes from the XIII, XVI and XVIII centuries and some of the most important icons of the 17th century in the whole of Montenegro. The town was established in the 17th century as settlement of artisans and merchants on the left bank of the Danube River. The focal point of the city is the Petrovaradin fortress. Ohrid is rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and tourism is predominant. It is located southwest of Macedonia. In 1980, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The lake is 30 km long and 16 km wide and underground springs keep the water temperature between 14 and 24°C throughout the year. The town of Ohrid nestles at one end of the lake with narrow streets bordered by some superb Macedonian architecture. There are 40 churches in Ohrid, most of them with beautifully painted frescoes and icons.
