ALL SCALES ARE TO BE PLAYED AS DESIGNATED.
DO NOT EXCEED THE RANGE OR TEMPO INDICATED.
ALL SCALES ARE TO BE MEMORIZED.
DIATONIC SCALES
All major scales will be played at m.m. quarter note = 60. Scales will be played in eighth notes with the
tonic of the scale being played as a quarter note in all octaves. Do not repeat the top note.

Scales will be called for by pitch name, not concert pitch.
Major scales are to be legato tongued both ascending and descending.
Required scales for all: Concert Bb. Eb, Ab, F
All scales are to be played in as many complete octaves as possible within in the chromatic range. Please
check the ranges carefully.

Chromatic scales are to be played in eighth notes at the tempo indicated.
Chromatic scales are to be slurred ascending, play the top note as a quarter note, repeat the top note and
staccato descending. Trombones will play legato tongue ascending, and staccato descending.
All students will start on their Bb Concert and end on Bb concert, 1 octave only for time purposes.
