Attn: Human Resources Director 888 17th Street, N.W., Suite 850 Washington, DC 20006 Subject Line: Environmental Compliance Job Description: Position Summary: The position is for providing environmental compliance monitoring services on an as-needed basis during construction activities for repair, rehabilitation and replacement of sanitary sewer pipes and manholes in environmentally sensitive areas. Principal Duties & Responsibilities: Promptly communicate any potential non-compliance conditions or environmental issues. Maintain photographic documentation of each project site visited. Re-establish or verify the location of damaged/missing markings of previously located environmental features. Prepare field sketches and photo documentation of additional impacts to environmental features. Prepare and coordinate permit modification requests. Delineate additional environmental features. Make precise and clear recommendations for the installation and maintenance of appropriate environmental protections, such as tree protection, mulch mats and stream crossings when the contractor is not building per plan. Report issues or failures of erosion and sediment control practices and monitor corrective measures. Attend field meetings. Monitor planting activities and assist with the location of seeding. Provide feedback on project closeout activities and attend the punch list item walkthroughs. Prepare daily and weekly observation reports. 1 Job Description Knowledge, Education & Experience: (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position) Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering technology, natural resources management or equivalent field, or a minimum of five (5) years of experience and certification as a Maryland Department of Natural Resources Qualified Professional Minimum of five (5) years of environmental experience Be able to read and understand construction design plans, specifications, and details Be thoroughly familiar with erosion and sediment control measures Successfully completed MDE Responsible Personnel Training for Erosion and Sediment Control Have five (5) years of experience in field monitoring of construction projects including erosion and sediment controls, wetlands delineation and monitoring, permit compliance, forest delineation and monitoring of tree protection Have a solid understanding of environmental regulations, including, but not limited to, Clean Water Act Section 401 and 404, Maryland Forest Conservation Act, Roadside Tree Law, Critical Area Law, and Maryland Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Standards. Working Conditions: (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.) Duties include both indoor and outdoor activities; however most activities will be outdoors. Conditions could include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures. Assignments require ability to transport oneself to and from the field site and to able to safely navigate a construction site.
