Polish Language, Culture Study and Didactics Centre Faculty of Philology Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences (Lithuania) Department of Philological Research “The East – The West” Faculty of Philology University of Bialystok (Poland) kindly invite to the International Scientific Conference LITHUANIAN AND POLISH BILINGUAL WRITERS THE ISSUE OF BILINGUALISM IN LITHUANIAN AND POLISH CULTURE LITERATURE – CULTURE – LANGUAGE The conference will be held in Lithuania on 8–9 October 2015 and hosted by the Faculty of Philology of the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences and Czeslaw Milosz Cultural Centre in Sheteniai (Šeteniai). The conference will focus on a new approach to the issue of bilingualism in the works of Lithuanian and Polish writers. Research issues include the following topics: Lithuanian and Polish bilingual writers, their works and biographies – from the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania through the 19th century to the modern times; historical and cultural contexts in bilingual writers’ works; the issue of identity in the works of bilingual writers; topics, metaphors, symbols; the image of man, nature and history in bilingual writers’ works; poetics of bilingual writers’ texts, their choice of genre: poetry, prose, drama; bilingual writers’ linguistic, cultural and ethnic problems of convergence and interference; the Lithuanian and Polish languages as bilingual writers’ means of expression; Lithuanian – Polish bilingualism in the context of contemporary comparativistics; bilingual writers’ role in the synthesis of Lithuanian and Polish national literature; questions of bilingual writers’ reception; Lithuanian and Polish bilingual writers among other cultures and languages; the book, the journal, the library as the space of bilingualism. Conference languages: Lithuanian, Polish, English, Russian. Registration fee – 100 euro (the fee covers organizational and transport costs, meals during the conference, excursions, etc.). The registration fee is paid on the conference site. Conference participants make arrangements concerning their arrival and accommodation on their own. Recommended hotels: LEU guest house (A. Vivulskio St. 36, Vilnius): 15-30 euro per person per night, breakfast is not included. Ecotel Vilnius (Slucko str. 8, Vilnius): standard single room from 30 euro per person per night, standard double room from 36 euro per person per night, standard triple room from 45 euro per person per night. Breakfast is included. During the conference, the excursion to Šeteniai is planned. The second day workshops will be organised in Šeteniai. All participants are kindly requested to submit the abstracts of their paper, which will be translated into Lithuanian.
