Answer: GDID is responsible for the construction, maintenance and management of public facilities and buildings such as hospitals and community health centres across the province. Answer: The department is mainly structured according to the needs of the client departments that it services, namely health and education infrastructure. It is also structured in line with its mandate of being the chief custodian and manager of public property in Gauteng. The main units are known as branches and they are headed by senior managers designated as Deputy Directors General, Chief Directors and Directors. Answer: The department is expected to pay a supplier within 30 days of receipt of a valid, complete and accurate invoice as certified by the GDID and the client departments. Answer: The department has introduced the e-Maintenance infrastructure solution for members of the public to report defects in health infrastructure at www.emaintenance.gpg.gov.za The department has committed itself to the following desired level of service: 24Hours for Minor Breakdowns; 7Days for Major Breakdowns; and, 365Days for Major Refurbishments. Members of the public will receive feedback on the status of their queries, and they can also check directly via the website. Question: What is the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and how can I access the opportunities it provides? Answer: EPWP is a skills development and job creation programme that aims to provide opportunities to unemployed people in the various communities in which socioeconomic development programmes are being implemented. It is made up of four sectors, namely the infrastructure sector, the social sector, the environment sector and the non-state sector whereby communities initiate their own programmes and then partner with government. GDID is the provincial coordinator of the programme in Gauteng, working in partnership with all relevant government departments, municipalities and community-based organisations. Answer: Tshepo 500 000 is a Gauteng Provincial Government initiative aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities for people exiting the EPWP and emerging entrepreneurs in Gauteng. The programme also aims to create a supportive environment through the establishment of a partnership between government agencies and private sector companies. Answer: The National Youth Service is a sub-programme of the EPWP through which the department provides short-term (i.e. 12 months) work experience to youth between the ages 18 years and 35 years, with either a grade 10, grade 11 or grade 12 certificate. The NYS enlists more than two thousand (2000) young people each year and places them in various departments and government agencies in order to give them basic skills required in the workplace.
