Ensure that the trainee nursing team and yourself meet customer expectations. Ensure that the clinical team of trainee veterinary nurses are well trained, motivated, committed and can contribute to the achievement of a high standard of in-patient care. Assist with setting clinical nursing standards (working closely with the practice manager) and ensure the implementation of these standards. Maintain RCVS registration to include mandatory CPD requirements. Accountability relating to the active management of the nursing team. Allocate nursing duties, nurse team meetings and staff appraisals along with the nurse team leader. Ensure working knowledge of the trainee nursing team is up to date through both internal and external training. Ensure regular feedback is given to the trainee nursing team. Work with reception and nurse team leader to ensure day-to-day tasks run smoothly. Organise nurse meetings liaising with the nurse and reception team leader and practice manager. Attend clinical meetings and workshops held by college. Organise weekly tutorials with students to assist with planning and progress of the NPL. Oversee assignment progress. Oversee completion of guided learning hours. Co-ordinate animal nursing assistant students. Accountability relating to clinical nursing. Ensure that nursing practices, protocols and procedures are established and maintained to current best practice standards, working closely with the practice manager and nurse team leader Work closely with training providers and adhere to standards laid down by college, RCVS and City & Guilds Ensure all staffs work adheres to the levels of high Health and Safety standards laid down in the practice guidance Ensure that there is a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the hospital. Attend training courses to maintain the required professional standard and under the instructions of the practice manager. Assist and work closely with the nurse team leader Assist in maintaining and reviewing the RCVS practice standards scheme Accountability relating to facility and equipment Ensure equipment and supplies are available at all times to ensure the efficient care of patients Accountability relating to Health and safety Work with the practice manager in the review of health and safety procedures. Ensure all staffs work adheres to the levels of high Health and Safety standards laid down in the practice guidance General nursing duties Depending on volume of students some general nursing duties will be required to maintain occupational competencies. Ensure meticulous and comprehensive medical records are maintained Assist with anaesthesia, ensuring safe anaesthesia and surgical operations as required Assist with the correct dispensing of medication Assist with euthanasia and cadaver handling as required Cleaning and preparation of instruments and equipment Admit and discharge patients Carry out nurse consultations, health checks and give advice to clients. Carry out schedule 3 procedures including anaesthesia and radiography. Manage instruments and operating cloths and gowns to ensure they are correctly packed, labelled and sterilised for operations within the surgery.
