Institute for Healthcare Improvement Position Summary Position Title: Research Associate, Results and Evaluation The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is an independent not-for-profit organization that works with health care providers and leaders throughout the world to achieve safe and effective health care. Position Summary: As an integral member of the staff, the Research Associate will work with the IHI Results & Evaluation Team and case study work lead by Doug McCarthy. At any time, the Research Associate may be working on several topics in different stages of development. The Research Associate will typically employ a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods to produce summary reports of how improvement teams and organizations IHI works with are progressing. Position Responsibilities: Conduct literature reviews and Web research on study sites and topics. Maintain a bibliographic database and tracking system for topic-related information. Collect and analyze performance and benchmarking data. Schedule site visits, meetings, and telephone interviews. Support the analysis of interview transcripts. Prepare PowerPoint slides, tables, charts, and other exhibits. Present summary reports to both internal IHI audiences and external meetings. Take meeting notes and prepare project summaries. Contact sources of data and journals for permissions. Proofread reports and check data for accuracy. Maintain project plan (using Microsoft Project software). Support general project administration. Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Some knowledge or experience of working in Health care is highly desirable. Excellent ability to gather and synthesize information from various sources. Strong literature search and review skills. Strong ability to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data. Excellent written and oral communication skills. The ability to work independently and as a team member. Intellectual curiosity including interest in health care. The ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team. Self-motivation, flexibility and integrity. Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and electronic searching techniques. Willingness and ability to quickly learn other computer applications, e.g., SPSS, PubMed, EndNote, Microsoft Project. Position Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred Three to five years previous work experience in a professional environment required Prior project management experience preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint required Experience or knowledge of health care preferred.
