Warriors Find Ways At Lake County Championships On Friday May 8th the Warriors traveled to Grayslake North HS to compete in the 2015 Lake County Championships; however, we encountered some adversity as rain and lightning cancelled the meet and we thought the meet was not going to happen this year. Grayslake Central however stepped up and offered to host on Saturday as the athletes, coaches, and volunteers found ways to make it happen. Although 4 teams could not make it Saturday there were still 16 teams competing and arguably one of the fastest field of competitors we have seen in many years. Our boys recalled our philosophy in this moment of adversity and simply stated and focused on what we believe and that’s “Goal Oriented People Find Ways”…and they sure as heck did by surprising the coaches with a very nice 3rd place County Trophy! The team was focused, fit, and most importantly they seemed to just be having fun the whole meet and that approach really led to some nice Personal Records and All County performances. Lakes won the title with 93.5pts and look for them to be on the trophy stand at the IHSA State meet, as Barrington was runner up with 78pts, DHS in 3rd with 59pts just edging out Warren with 58pts as Grant rounded out the TOP 5 with 53pts. Those Top 5 teams are loaded with state level programs and it sure is an honor to compete against them. Our 3 rd place finish is now the 11th year in a row Deerfield has been in the TOP 10 at County and since 2008 we have won the County 3 times (2008, 2010, 2012) and been runner up (2009, 2011) or TOP 5 (2013, 2015) and or Top 10 (2014) ….that’s simply an amazing streak and consistency that’s 2 nd to none in the County. No one has been more consistent at high levels than the Deerfield Warriors and that’s not from me but from the Head Coach at Lakes stating that to me at the meet…humbling. Special Mention goes to Senior Jamie Ackerson as he is now 8th on the All Time Top 10 in the 300IH. Way to go Jamie…must be the headband. Senior Chris Douglas also was special as he broke his OWN School Record in 300IH with a time of 38.08 dropping 7 tenths! And dropped a tenth in the 110HH solidifying his 2nd place Spot on the All Time Top 10 in the 110HH. Lets all do the Dougie! Senior Graham Tonner threw his way onto the All Time Top 10 in Discus with a toss of 146’6” which puts him 10th All Time. The Throws Force is strong with Graham. Senior Charles Nash also made the Top 10 in 10th in the 800m with a time of 1:56.88. Charles is feeling the need…the need for speed! **It was a great day and now onto the next time capsule of our Championship Phase. The CSL North Championship Week! Lets GO!
