TIMELINE FOR COURSE SELECTION FOR JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS
December -- High School counselors go to each Junior High to meet with 8th grade students. At these
meetings counselors will provide an overview of the course selection process for students. They will also
discuss the changes that students face when they move from 8th grade to high school.
For 2013-14:
December 10th – Counselors will visit Kennedy Junior High
December 11th – Counselors will visit Madison Junior High
December 12th – Counselors will visit Lincoln Junior High
December 12th – Counselors will visit Jefferson Junior High
January – The first week back after break, your student will receive a high school Course Selection
Worksheet that has recommendations initialed by your 8th grade teachers. Please follow those
recommendations and direct questions to the High School Instructional Coordinators during Freshman
Family Orientation or to High School Counselors on the 8th grade Parent Information Night. In late
January, students will see a new tab in the portal of Infinite Campus for high school course registration.
Students should enter their recommended courses and electives in the portal AND return their course
selection worksheet to their junior high counselor. The Portal Instructions are linked here AND located
on pp. 11-19 in the Course Description Book.
For 2013-2014:
January 8th – 8th Grade Parent Presentation: Intro to High School Course Selection
7:00 p.m. – Naperville Central Auditorium
Presented by Jackie Thornton, Assistant Principal AND High School
Counselors
January 13 & 15th – Freshman Family Orientation (Students with last names A-L come Monday,
M-Z come Wednesday)
January 10th to February 3rd – Student Portal is open for registration. Enter course
requests into the portal AND turn in your paper course selection worksheet
to your Jr. High counselor.
February – High School Counselors return to the Junior Highs to meet briefly with each student
to finalize and review course requests.
For 2013-2014:
February 4th – Jefferson Junior High
February 5th – Kennedy Junior High
February 6th – Madison Junior High
February 7th – Lincoln Junior High
