AR 7 Honoring the Life and Service of Mrs. Mary Margaret Farabee: Exemplary Alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin Authors: John Brown Sponsors: 2013-2014 Student Government Assembly WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of Mary Margaret Farabee on March 3rd, 2013. Mary Margaret served the State of Texas and University of Texas at Austin as one of its most passionate supporters and volunteers; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Farabee was born in Dallas in 1939, she went on to get her BA and Master’s degrees from The University of Texas at Austin. She was a dynamic young leader at UT in various student activities such as being a sister in the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and being one of the first to fight against racial discrimination; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Farabee’s career included serving as Director of Volunteer Services for Seton Hospital, Senior Vice President at United Bank, and Vice President for Development at KLRUTV; and, WHEREAS, Mrs. Farabee graciously gave her time serving others on: The University of Texas Press Council, the UT Harry Ransom Council, the People’s Community Clinic, the Austin Community Foundation, the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, the Texas Child Study Center, the Lady Bird Johnson Wild Flower Center, and the Huston – Tillotson University Leadership Program, among many others. WHEREAS, She joined with Texas First Lady Laura Bush to found the Texas Book Festival in 1996 and chaired its board of directors for eight years; BE IT RESOLVED, that The University of Texas at Austin Student Government Association recognizes and pays tribute to the life and public service of Mary Margaret Farabee and extends deepest sympathy to the members of her family; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family, and when the UT Student Government Assembly adjourns this day, it do so in the memory of Mary Margaret Farabee. _______________________ _______________________ Student Body President Signature Student Body Vice-President Signature Horacio R.
