It is with great pleasure that I send this letter on behalf of the Latina Leadership Network (LLN) of the California
Community Colleges. On March 28-29, 2014, LLN will celebrate their 27th anniversary by hosting their annual
conference at Ohlone College in Newark, CA. I am asking for your support in two ways; first, to encourage the
attendance and participation of students, faculty and staff in the upcoming conference and second, to request
that you consider direct sponsorship of the conference.
There comes a time in our professional lives when we have the opportunity to look back at the seeds planted
and see what sort of fruit our tree has born. Such is the case for me and the LLN. Nearly thirty years ago while
I was still at the State Chancellor’s Office, I had the opportunity to support a small “seed grant” for the start-up
of the Latina Leadership Network. The goal was simple: the development of a support network to increase the
number of Latinas in positions of leadership at all levels of the community college enterprise. I was particularly
struck by an aspect of the proposal that emphasized the involvement of students in the network and not just
faculty and staff.
In 27 years, the LLN has met the test of time and accountability. Because we have a strong base of
volunteers and subject matter experts, we have been able to keep the cost of attendance low by maximizing
every bit of our resources; but, by the same token, operational costs continue to rise. It is for this reason that I
am asking you to invest in the future of the LLN because I know you recognize the value added resulting from
this type of effort.
Attached you will find two forms for your review and use: a Conference Program Ad Form and a Conference
Sponsorship Form. Please note that the LLN is a non-profit organization (EIN = 75-3220279). Please return the
completed forms to the contact indicated on the page.
