The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science is seeking a Lecturer in Biology to be responsible for the teaching of a variety of modules on a number of undergraduate courses. A broad knowledge of biology, especially in the areas of cellular biology and biochemistry is essential for success in this role.
The terms and conditions of the post (including grade and salary) will be those of the University of South
Wales (based on former University of Glamorgan terms and conditions).

Main Purpose of the Job:
This Lecturer in Biology is mainly responsible for lecturing to undergraduates on the BSc Biology, BSc
Human Biology, BSc Medical Sciences and BSc International Wildlife Biology degree programmes
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver classes in cellular biology and biochemistry to students on the BSc Biology, BSc Human
Biology, BSc Medical Sciences and BSc International Wildlife Biology degree programmes
Contribute to the teaching of other areas of biology as appropriate to undergraduates on associated courses, which may include BSc Biology, BSc Forensic Biology, BSc Natural History, BSc Human
Biology and BSc International Biology.
Set and mark coursework assessments and exam scripts
Design and supervise practical classes and projects in cellular biology, biochemistry and related subject areas
Assist in student recruitment activities
Assist in meeting subject quality assurance targets including NSS, employability and annual monitoring
Undertake appropriate levels of pastoral care for students
Undertake and contribute to the development and enhancement of the curriculum within the subject area
Participate in other duties as determined by line manager

KNOWLEDGE
Essential h) Broad knowledge of biology, particularly cellular biology, biochemistry and related subject areas
EXPERIENCE
Essential j) Experience in teaching or supervision in a higher education environment
TRAINING
Essential o) A PhD in a relevant area of biology
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Essential q) Willingness and ability to undertake the Post
Graduate Certificate in Learning and
Teaching (or equivalent) as part of probationary period
Desirable f) Familiarity with appropriate laboratory techniques in cellular biology, biochemistry and microbiology g) Contribute to the School of Applied Sciences’ research profile by developing their own research interests in line with existing research areas
Desirable i) Knowledge of other areas of biology, including statistical analysis, genetics and microbiology
Desirable k) Evidence of pastoral skills l) Experience of developing materials for the teaching of cellular biology and biochemistry in a higher education environment at various levels m) Experience of designing and supervising practical classes, projects and fieldwork n) Experience of marking coursework, assessments and exam scripts
