Requirements for entry into bilingual education at Kaitaia Intermediate School
1. Students must have whanau support – either a parent/caregiver/or extended family member who is available and committed to engage in
conversations using Te Reo Maori with the student on a regular basis.
2. The student must want and be committed to learning Te Reo Maori and engage in all class work and opportunities to use and improve.
3. The student and whanau must ensure that they attend school regularly.
4. Tikanga Maori will be followed and the students will work and learn using correct and acceptable protocols.
5. Students who have had previous bilingual/total immersion education or who demonstrate an ability and commitment to Te Reo/Tikanga Maori will
be given priority.
6. Students who have not had Te Reo Maori bilingual/total immersion education but who are achieving in English Literacy at Year 7 entry Level 3B
or better will be considered if the whanau and student demonstrate the commitments as specified above.
