Carolyn Fleming Bannister, MD
( Education) Dr. Bannister graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1985 and received postgraduate training at Emory University School of Medicine in
Pediatrics/Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology.
( Academic Position) She is Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. She is
Director of the Emory University Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship program at
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital. She currently serves as President of the Medical Staff for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
( Memberships/Organizational Involvement) Dr. Bannister is past president of the Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists and currently serves as senior newsletter editor,
Chair of the Program/Education Committee, and delegate to the American Society of
Anesthesiologists. She chaired the ASA Committee on Pediatric Anesthesia for 5 years and is Past Chair of the ASA Committee on Public Outreach.
She is a member of the ASA Committee on Pediatric Anesthesia and adjunct member of the Committee on Occupational Health of Operating Room Personnel. She has served as Junior Editor for the ABA/ASA In-Training Examinations.
(Section Involvement) During her term as Chair of the ASA Committee on
Pediatric Anesthesia, Dr. Bannister was a liaison to the executive committee of the AAP
Section on Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and to the Society for Pediatric
Anesthesia.
(Board Certification) Dr. Bannister is board certified in Internal Medicine,
Pediatrics and Anesthesiology.
(Interests/Activities) Dr. Bannister is a fund raiser for the Leukemia Society of
America and for the March of Dimes (ran 4 marathons to raise money for research.) She participated in a mission trip to El Salvador to perform anesthesia for children receiving living-related renal transplants.
(Social) Dr. Bannister is married and has one son.
