1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division

The Manager, Scholar Recruitment and Admissions, is located in the Division of Enrollment Services
in Reno, Nevada. The responsibility of this position is to actively recruit academically talented
students from Nevada, California, and additional out-of-state markets as determined by the Director of
Admissions, with special emphasis in National Merit Scholars, National Achievement Scholars,
Hispanic Recognition Scholars, students with university special designation (prospective Presidential
and Silver and Blue Scholarship Recipients), ethnically diverse students and students with special
talents.
The position serves as the primary liaison to the colleges/school deans, colleges/school recruitment
outreach, and retention coordinators, and school district curriculum representatives. This position is
responsible for the planning and execution of Nevada Scholars Summer Program, Best and Brightest
Nevada Bound, Junior Rising Star Nevada Bound, National Merit and Presidential Signing days,
National Merit & Presidential Scholar luncheons/Dinners etc.
The position manages the University Early College Program (Dual Credit, Early College, and
Signature Academy). The Manager advises, registers, and enrolls students and assists the Associate
Vice President of Student Services with developing, maintaining, and monitoring Early College
policies, procedures, and quality control. The position reports to the Director of Admissions and Office
of Prospective Students (OPS) under the Division of Enrollment Services.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide

70% - Recruitment of National Scholars
 Assist the Director, with managing the University enrollment management plan for
academically talented students and national scholars (National Merit Scholars, National
Achievement, and National Hispanic Recognition)
 Oversee the scholar recruitment efforts of National Merit Finalist, National Achievement
Finalist, and National Hispanic Recognition
 Advise and maintain liaison with Academic Deans that focus on National Merit Finalist ,
National Achievement Finalist, and National Hispanic Recognition recruitment and yield of
freshman class
 Manage and spearhead the University’s scholar recruitment activities including planning and
attending high school visits, area receptions, college fairs, and individual meetings
 Prepares reports, data compilation, and analysis related to dual enrollment, academically
talented and national scholar students for Academic Deans
 Develop national scholar communication flow for university Academic Deans
 Assist with coordination of scholar recruitment and yield events Nevada Bound, Best &
Brightest, Junior Rising Star, President Signing Days, Out-of-State Yield events, etc.
 Provide update on national and geographical enrollment trends that affect National Merit
Finalist, National Achievement Finalist, and National Hispanic Recognition recruitment

15% - General Student Recruitment
 Actively recruit eligible students in assigned schools and surrounding rural areas for
recruitment presentations
 Evaluate academic records of applicants to determine admissibility
 Develop and execute effective telephone counseling campaigns throughout the recruitment
cycle
 Utilize latest technology and data collection to make strategic and intellectual decisions in
recruitment markets
 Provide information regarding current and future academic majors and programs
 Represent University at college fairs/program
 Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies in various out-of-state markets
 Serve as a resource to counselors and teachers concerning admissions and special programs
 Counsel prospective students, parents and counselors regarding admissions requirements,
course placement, major selection and financial aid and scholarships
10%- Dual Enrollment and Early College Program
 Manage university Dual Enrollment Program and Early College
 Perform advising-related functions for prospective and current dual enrollment students
associated with high school graduation requirements, university core requirements, course
sequencing consistent with students interests, competencies and aspirations/career goals
 Clarify academic policies and procedures and disseminate information on academic
requirements
 Create and maintain student records
 Develop recruitment and marketing materials
 Assures compliance with state and federal policies and laws i.e. Institutional Development
Award (IDEA,) Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), etc.
 Liaison to Child Protective Services assisting with the recruitment and registration of minors
5% Office Supervision
 Act as supervisor in the absence of Program Manager in the Office for Prospective Students
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without

the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Manager deals with complex issues regarding high achieving students which impact university’s
reputation and brand as a National Merit Sponsoring Institution. The manager has wide latitude in the
area of developing cutting edge recruitment and admissions initiatives to increase applicant pool and
matriculation of academically talented and national scholar students. The position solves complex
problems regarding financial resources, institutional academic packaging, and educational objectives
for students, parents, and the general public. The position consults with the Director on more
sensitive issues that may affect the University.
Impact:
The effectiveness of the individual will assist with overall Institutional Strategic Plan of increasing
university enrollment, specifically in academically talented and national scholar students.
