Northern Virginia Regional Coordinator Organization: Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF) Reports to: Director of Community Investments Work Location: Within the Northern Virginia Region Jurisdictions to Be Served Include: Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park Hours: 25-40 hours per week ______________________________________________________________________________ The Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF) was founded in 2006 as a public-private partnership with Virginia's Office of Early Childhood Development. VECF is an innovative, collaborative and results-oriented entity that has established itself as the non-partisan steward and capacity builder for advancing school readiness in the Commonwealth. VECF will forge public and private partnerships that: build capacity for increasing school readiness at the state and local levels; harness best practices; maximize resources and gain efficiencies; and secure outcomes-driven investments so that every Virginia child is prepared for school, laying the foundation for workforce and life success. VECF promotes school readiness by building the capacity of local coalitions to create optimal environments for children’s growth and development. These coalitions are guided by VECF through a multi-phase grant process that includes a community needs assessment, strategic planning, and implementation of evidence-based strategies. Strategic leadership development, intensive technical assistance, and financial resources are provided to communities as they address unique local and regional challenges impacting the healthy development of young children. Position Summary The Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF) is seeking a consultant to engage Northern Virginia communities in developing a regional model for advancing school readiness. This consultant will serve as the Northern Virginia Regional Coordinator. In collaboration with local Smart Beginning Partners, the Regional Coordinator will convene a regional public/private leadership group; facilitate the identification/development of regional priorities; and explore collaborative public relations and resource development opportunities. The Regional Coordinator will begin by working with local Smart Beginning communities to organize an event in Northern Virginia which highlights the importance of early childhood work in the region. The consultant contract could lead to a full time position. Qualifications: Possess a proven record of leadership and relationship-building success in the Northern Virginia region, preferably with experience in the area of early childhood, education, and/or health systems development. Be familiar with multiple Northern Virginia localities. Exhibit highly-developed interpersonal relations and communications skills, able to effectively build relationships with local partners and private/public leaders. Have experience with and display an understanding of local and statewide systems, particularly early childhood systems. Demonstrate knowledge, skill and success in generating financial support from both the public and private sectors. Demonstrate ability to ensure accountability, target improved regional outcomes, and effectively mobilize and communicate results. Master’s degree preferred.
