Calculations Worksheet
Date: ____________
Section: ______________
Lab Sta. #: ________
Print these pages and demonstrate how to perform the calculations in each of the sections below.
Copy resulting answers into the shaded spaces in the Data Collection spreadsheet (if indicated).
Show all work for full credit.
Circle each final answer.
Remember to include units of measure and demonstrate how they cancel out during the calculation.
Reaction of Na2CO3 with HCl
Moles of Na2CO3 reacted: Use the calculated mass of sodium carbonate from Line 3 of the Lab Report
and the molar mass of sodium carbonate to calculate the number of moles of sodium carbonate that
reacted.
Calc 1
Theoretical yield (the mass of NaCl expected to be produced by the reaction): Use the results of
Calculation #1 to calculate the mass of NaCl that should be produced by the reaction.
Calc 2
Percent yield: Use the actual yield of NaCl produced in the reaction (Lab Report Line 10) and the
theoretical yield (Calculation 2) to calculate the percent yield.
Calc 3
Moles of NaCl produced: Use the mass of NaCl produced in the reaction (Lab Report Line 10) to
calculate the number of moles of NaCl that were produced.
Calc 4
Ratio of moles NaCl to moles Na2CO3: Use the number of moles of Na2CO3 reacted (Calc 1) and the
number of moles of NaCl produced (Calc 4) to calculate the ratio of moles NaCl produced per mole
sodium carbonate that reacted.

molar mass of NaHCO3 to calculate the number of moles of sodium bicarbonate that reacted.
Calc 6
Theoretical yield (the mass of NaCl expected to be produced by the reaction): Use the results of
Calculation #5 to calculate the mass of NaCl that should be produced by the reaction.
Calc 7
Percent yield: Use the actual yield of NaCl produced in the reaction (Lab Report Line 20) and the
theoretical yield (Calculation 6) to calculate the percent yield.
